Primary Functions

  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance on a wide variety of heating systems, including gas furnaces, oil boilers, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits to ensure their longevity and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough system diagnostics using advanced tools, pressure gauges, and combustion analyzers to accurately identify malfunctions and determine the root cause of system failures.
  • Execute complex repairs on gas, oil, and electric heating systems, which includes the precise replacement of components like heat exchangers, blower motors, ignitors, gas valves, and control boards.
  • Install new, high-efficiency heating systems and equipment, ensuring all work is performed in strict accordance with manufacturer specifications, local building codes, and industry safety standards.
  • Skillfully perform brazing, soldering, and welding as required for fabricating and fitting pipes, tubing, and other components during system installation and repair processes.
  • Read and meticulously interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to understand system layouts, troubleshoot electrical circuits, and follow service procedures accurately.
  • Test and balance newly installed or serviced heating systems to guarantee they are operating at peak efficiency and delivering optimal comfort and airflow as designed.
  • Clearly and professionally educate customers on the proper operation of their heating systems, outlining routine maintenance they can perform and explaining the benefits of service plans or potential upgrades.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate work orders, digital service reports, and parts lists, submitting all documentation in a timely manner using company-provided mobile software or platforms.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked service vehicle, conducting regular inventory checks to ensure readiness for a diverse range of service calls and emergencies.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including the safe handling of fuels, electrical lockout/tagout procedures, and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Develop and present clear, transparent cost estimates for repairs and installations, thoroughly explaining the scope of work and available options to customers before proceeding.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow technicians, dispatchers, and management to troubleshoot particularly challenging technical issues and contribute to a team environment of shared knowledge.
  • Proactively stay current with the latest industry technologies, emerging products, and evolving code requirements through participation in continuous education, factory training, and professional development workshops.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls as part of a rotating on-call schedule to ensure continuous support and peace of mind for our clients.
  • Perform detailed combustion analysis on fuel-burning appliances and make precise adjustments to burners and controls to achieve optimal fuel efficiency, performance, and safety.
  • Run, connect, and troubleshoot low and high-voltage electrical wiring, control circuits, and thermostats to ensure all system components communicate and function correctly.
  • Evaluate the performance and efficiency of existing heating systems, providing clients with data-driven recommendations for energy-saving upgrades or system replacements.
  • Ensure all installations, retrofits, and major repairs successfully pass required local and state inspections on the first attempt by maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
  • Provide an exceptional customer service experience on every visit, building strong rapport and trust with clients to foster long-term loyalty and positive referrals.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the training and mentorship of apprentices and junior technicians, sharing knowledge and demonstrating best practices in the field.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Diagnostics: Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues within a wide range of heating systems (furnaces, boilers, heat pumps).
  • Brazing and Soldering: High level of skill in joining copper tubing and pipes to create leak-free, durable connections.
