Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and efficiently load and unload heavy materials, equipment, and finished products from trucks, shipping containers, and trailers, ensuring proper weight distribution and securing of loads.
- Manually move freight, stock, or other materials around the worksite, warehouse, or facility, which may involve lifting, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, saws, grinders, and jackhammers, while adhering to all safety protocols.
- Perform rigorous site cleanup duties, including sweeping, removing debris, collecting and disposing of rubble, trash, and hazardous materials in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Assist skilled craft workers, such as carpenters, masons, and welders, by fetching tools, holding materials, and performing other preparatory tasks as directed.
- Prepare and maintain construction sites by digging trenches, backfilling holes, erecting scaffolding, and setting up temporary fencing or barricades.
- Operate heavy machinery and compact construction equipment, such as skid-steers, compactors, and forklifts, under direct supervision and after receiving proper certification.
- Mix, pour, spread, and level construction materials like concrete, mortar, and asphalt using hand tools to ensure a smooth and durable finish.
- Perform basic demolition tasks, carefully dismantling structures, sorting salvaged materials, and clearing the area for new construction.
- Follow detailed verbal and written instructions from supervisors to complete tasks correctly and efficiently within project timelines.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and reporting any hazards or incidents immediately.
- Inspect tools and equipment before and after each use, performing routine maintenance and ensuring they are in safe, working condition.
- Transport materials to and from storage areas, loading docks, and work zones using pallet jacks, wheelbarrows, and material handling carts.
- Assemble and break down temporary structures, workstations, and equipment needed for specific projects or production runs.
- Perform groundskeeping and landscaping duties, such as clearing brush, mowing, or grading the earth as required for site preparation.
- Read and interpret basic work orders, plans, or diagrams to understand material and task requirements for the day.
- Securely rig and flag loads for crane or hoist operations, communicating clearly with equipment operators to ensure safe movement of materials.
- Sort, stack, and organize raw materials such as lumber, pipe, and steel in designated storage areas for easy access and inventory management.
- Work effectively in various and often challenging weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Measure and cut materials like wood, metal, and drywall to specified dimensions using hand and power saws.
