Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform meticulous visual and tactile inspections of all incoming helmets to identify structural damage, such as cracks, deep scratches, and stress fractures, ensuring they meet safety standards before cleaning.
  • Systematically disassemble multi-component helmets, carefully removing internal padding, liners, cheek pads, and visors to allow for thorough cleaning and sanitation of each individual part.
  • Utilize manufacturer-approved and industry-standard cleaning agents to meticulously wash, sanitize, and disinfect all interior fabric and foam components, focusing on eliminating bacteria, sweat, and odors.
  • Execute detailed cleaning and polishing of the helmet's exterior shell and visor, removing dirt, scuffs, and residue to maintain a professional appearance and ensure clear visibility.
  • Skillfully reassemble all helmet components according to precise manufacturer specifications, verifying the correct fit and function of liners, straps, and fastening systems.
  • Conduct a final quality control inspection post-reassembly to guarantee the helmet is fully functional, safe, and meets all presentation standards before being returned to service.
  • Operate and maintain specialized helmet drying equipment, ensuring that all components are completely dry before reassembly to prevent mold, mildew, and bacterial growth.
  • Follow strict infection control protocols and sanitization procedures to prevent cross-contamination between equipment and protect the health of all users.
  • Document and maintain a comprehensive log of the helmet inventory, meticulously tracking cleaning cycles, maintenance history, and assignment to specific personnel.
  • Identify, tag, and quarantine helmets that fail inspection due to damage or excessive wear, and formally report them to the Equipment Manager for repair or retirement.
  • Perform minor repairs on helmets, such as replacing worn-out snaps, loose screws, and frayed chin straps, to extend the usable life of the equipment.
  • Manage the proper handling, storage, and disposal of all cleaning chemicals in strict accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and organize helmets for high-demand periods such as game days, race events, or project kick-offs, ensuring all equipment is in pristine, ready-to-use condition.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the dedicated equipment cleaning and maintenance workstation.
  • Manage and maintain an adequate inventory of all necessary cleaning supplies, chemicals, and replacement parts, placing orders proactively to prevent any disruption in service.
  • Assist the Equipment Manager with inventory audits, equipment sizing, and fitting sessions for new personnel or athletes.
  • Research and recommend new cleaning products, technologies, and techniques to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the helmet maintenance program.
  • Collaborate with team or company leadership to apply or update branding elements, such as decals and numbers, on helmets while preserving shell integrity.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis related to equipment usage, lifespan, and maintenance trends.
  • Provide clear and concise communication to users regarding the status of their equipment and proper personal care techniques.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and professional development to stay current with industry best practices and evolving safety standards.
