Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Design, prototype, and implement compelling new heroes from initial paper design and high-level concept to a shippable, polished state in-game.
- Develop comprehensive and clear design documentation that outlines hero abilities, play patterns, strategic intentions, and underlying mathematical models.
- Champion the vision for a character's gameplay, ensuring their kit feels intuitive, satisfying, and cohesive with their narrative and artistic identity.
- Collaborate extensively with interdisciplinary teams, including concept art, 3D modeling, animation, VFX, SFX, and narrative, to ensure a unified and high-quality final product.
- Script and tune hero abilities using in-house tools or standard engines (e.g., Unreal Blueprints) to create functional prototypes for rapid iteration and playtesting.
- Conduct and analyze regular playtests, gathering qualitative feedback from a wide range of player skill levels to identify and solve critical design problems.
- Maintain and iterate on the design of existing heroes in a live game environment, addressing balance concerns, fixing bugs, and improving game feel based on player data.
- Utilize player data, telemetry, and community sentiment to make informed decisions about hero balance, reworks, and future character development priorities.
- Act as a key stakeholder and passionate advocate for the player experience, ensuring that hero designs are fair, understandable, and contribute positively to overall game health.
- Create and manage detailed character stat sheets, damage values, and complex interaction logic within the game's interconnected systems.
- Explore and pitch innovative gameplay mechanics and character archetypes that push the boundaries of the game's established design space.
