Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive in-home or virtual consultations to thoroughly assess client needs, lifestyle, organizational challenges, and desired outcomes for their living spaces.
  • Develop highly customized, strategic action plans for decluttering, organizing, and optimizing various areas of the home, including closets, kitchens, pantries, home offices, and storage areas.
  • Expertly guide clients through the often emotional process of sorting, categorizing, and making decisions about their belongings with profound empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Implement hands-on, physical organizing solutions, systematically arranging items to create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable systems that are easy for the client to maintain.
  • Research, recommend, and, if requested, purchase appropriate organizing products and storage solutions that align with the client's style, budget, and the specific needs of the space.
  • Educate clients on fundamental organizational principles and effective maintenance strategies to empower them with the skills needed for long-term success and to prevent the re-accumulation of clutter.
  • Provide specialized organizing support for significant life transitions, such as moving, downsizing, combining households, preparing for a new baby, or dealing with an estate.
  • Assist with the entire moving process, including strategic packing, creating a detailed inventory, and overseeing an organized unpacking process for a seamless transition into a new home.
  • Skillfully design and implement systems for managing paper flow, including mail, bills, and important documents, and establish efficient digital filing systems to reduce physical paperwork.
  • Apply space planning principles to advise on furniture arrangement and layout modifications, maximizing the functionality, flow, and visual appeal of each room.
  • Act as the primary coordinator with third-party services, such as junk removal companies, donation centers, consignment shops, and moving companies, to streamline the project for the client.
  • Handle all client belongings with the highest degree of care and respect, ensuring the absolute confidentiality of all personal information and circumstances.
  • Create and install clear, consistent, and intuitive labeling systems for containers, files, and shelves to support the new organizational structure and simplify item retrieval.
  • Offer emotional support and practical coaching to clients who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or have a strong sentimental attachment to their belongings, helping them move forward in a positive way.
  • Assemble small furniture items, shelving units, and complex storage systems as required to complete the implementation of the organizational plan.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from the initial inquiry and scheduling to final project completion, ensuring adherence to agreed-upon timelines and client expectations.
  • Develop and maintain a professional portfolio of work, including compelling before-and-after photographs (with client permission), to showcase expertise and results.
  • Actively engage in marketing and business development activities, including networking and social media management, to attract and cultivate a steady pipeline of new clients.
  • Create detailed project proposals and transparently manage project budgets, accurately tracking time, expenses for organizing products, and any third-party service fees.
  • Maintain meticulous client records, including consultation notes, project plans, and post-project follow-up communications, utilizing CRM or other client management tools.
  • Conduct post-project follow-up sessions with clients to assess the sustainability of the new systems, address any emerging challenges, and reinforce organizational habits.
  • Proactively pursue continuous professional development by staying current with the latest industry trends, innovative organizing products, and new methodologies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Space Planning & Spatial Reasoning: Ability to visualize and reconfigure spaces for maximum efficiency and flow.
  • Project Management: Skill in planning, executing, and managing organizing projects from start to finish, including timeline and budget management.
  • Knowledge of Organizing Methodologies: Familiarity with various systems and philosophies (e.g., KonMari, GTD, 5S) and the ability to adapt them to individual client needs.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Certification from a recognized professional organizing association (e.g., National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals - NAPO).

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Project Management

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

1-3+ years of professional organizing experience or demonstrated experience in a related client-facing role (e.g., personal assistant, project management, social work).

Preferred:

A proven track record of successful home organizing projects, supported by a professional portfolio and positive client testimonials. Experience working with diverse client situations, such as chronic disorganization, ADHD, or life transitions.
