Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide direct assistance to patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility, always preserving patient dignity.
  • Safely and compassionately transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to and from various departments, such as radiology, therapy, and surgical units.
  • Accurately measure and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate, reporting any significant changes to nursing staff immediately.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and inquiries, anticipating needs to ensure a comfortable and secure environment.
  • Assist patients with nutritional needs by delivering meal trays, providing feeding assistance when required, and accurately recording food and fluid intake.
  • Perform comprehensive cleaning and sanitation procedures for patient rooms, operating suites, and common areas in strict accordance with hospital infection control policies.
  • Execute terminal cleaning protocols in discharged patient rooms to prepare them for new admissions, ensuring a sterile and welcoming space.
  • Collect and prepare patient specimens such as urine and stool for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labeling and timely transport.
  • Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, promptly reporting any unusual behavior or complaints to the charge nurse or clinical team.
  • Assist nursing and medical staff with clinical procedures by gathering supplies, positioning patients, and providing supportive care as directed.
  • Manage and dispose of regulated medical waste, hazardous materials, and soiled linens according to strict safety and compliance protocols.
  • Perform routine environmental inspections to identify and address any safety hazards, maintenance needs, or cleanliness deficiencies.
  • Turn and reposition bedridden patients at regular intervals to prevent pressure ulcers and improve comfort.
  • Maintain a clear and organized patient care environment by tidying rooms, removing clutter, and ensuring pathways are unobstructed.
  • Engage with patients and their families in a courteous and empathetic manner, providing non-clinical information and emotional support.

Secondary Functions

  • Restock patient rooms and nursing stations with essential medical supplies, linens, and personal care items.
  • Maintain and clean medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, IV poles, and vital sign monitors, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Deliver medical records, lab specimens, and interdepartmental mail throughout the hospital campus efficiently and securely.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating effectively with colleagues and collaborating on shared tasks to ensure seamless patient flow.
  • Participate in hospital-wide safety drills, in-service training, and continuing education programs to stay current with best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management by monitoring supply levels in storage closets and communicating needs to the materials management department.
