Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate hot-lining machinery and heat-bonding equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring set temperatures, conveyor speeds, and cycle times align with production and quality standards.
  • Prepare workstations and materials by inspecting and staging liners, adhesives, cement, and rubber components so that each production run meets specification.
  • Monitor and precisely control process temperatures, dwell times, and pressure settings on hot-lining equipment, making real-time adjustments to minimize defects and rework.
  • Execute standardized changeover procedures between product types or sizes, including cleaning, tooling swaps, and recalibration to reduce downtime.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of lined parts immediately after processing, rejecting and tagging any non-conforming items while recording defect types and counts.
  • Maintain accurate production logs and batch records (including machine settings, temperatures, part counts, and scrap) for traceability and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on hot-lining machines—lubrication, belt checks, sensor calibration, and minor repairs—to preserve equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues in collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams, documenting findings and corrective actions.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety protocols for working with high-temperature equipment, flammable adhesives, ventilation systems, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Mix, measure, and apply adhesives, primers, and bonding agents per work instructions and safety data sheets (SDS), ensuring proper ratios and cure profiles.
  • Use precision tools (thermocouples, infrared thermometers, calipers, and torque tools) to verify machine settings and product conformity.
  • Train and coach junior operators on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety practices, quality checkpoints, and basic troubleshooting steps.
  • Implement loss reduction and waste-minimization practices by identifying common scrap causes and participating in root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with production planning to prioritize orders, adjust throughput to meet delivery schedules, and support rush or corrective-production runs.
  • Validate new liners, adhesives, and machine parameters during pilot runs, collecting data and providing recommendations to process engineering.
  • Ensure proper ventilation and exhaust performance during high-heat operations; report any environmental or regulatory non-compliance immediately.
  • Maintain orderly work areas by following 5S/lean manufacturing practices and participating in regular housekeeping and safety audits.
  • Complete required documentation for quality systems (e.g., NCRs, CAPAs, or inspection reports) to support regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements, participating in Kaizen events, and testing proposed changes under supervision.
  • Respond to equipment alarms and shutdowns promptly, performing safe lockout/tagout (LOTO) and assisting maintenance for corrective repairs to reduce mean time to repair (MTTR).
  • Verify incoming liner materials and adhesive shipments against purchase orders and specification sheets; quarantine and report any suspect materials.
  • Provide hands-on support during product qualification and change management activities, ensuring process windows are documented and reproducible.
  • Collaborate with quality engineers to implement statistical process control (SPC) measures and use data trends to stabilize production processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of production data, adhering to company policies and customer-specific requirements during all operations.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in inventory control by tracking adhesive and liner consumable usage, initiating replenishment requests, and minimizing overstock.
  • Support training programs by helping to develop SOPs, visual work instructions, and operator checklists tailored to hot-lining processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional safety committees and contribute practical feedback on PPE, ventilation, and emergency procedures.
  • Contribute to pilot projects for new materials or tooling, providing operator-level insights to engineering and R&D teams.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Operation of hot-bonding/hot-lining machinery, including temperature and pressure control systems.
  • Temperature measurement and monitoring using thermocouples, IR thermometers, and data loggers.
  • Hands-on adhesive mixing, dispensing, and curing processes with strict adherence to SDS and technical data sheets.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting: belt replacement, sensor alignment, bearing checks, and small mechanical adjustments.
  • Preventive maintenance practices and familiarity with maintenance logs and LOTO procedures.
  • Competence with precision measuring instruments: calipers, micrometers, and gauges for dimensional inspection.

  • Knowledge of industrial ventilation, exhaust systems, and combustible materials handling in high-heat environments.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; vocational certificate in industrial mechanics, manufacturing technology, or related field preferred.

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in manufacturing technology, mechanical engineering technology, or industrial maintenance.
  • Certifications in safety (OSHA), lockout/tagout, or specific equipment training are a plus.
