Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate, monitor, and control hydrogen production units (SMR or electrolysis), purification systems (PSA), compressors, and associated utilities using a Distributed Control System (DCS).
- Conduct regular plant walk-downs and field inspections to monitor equipment health, identify potential hazards, and ensure operational parameters are within specified limits.
- Execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plant startup, shutdown, and normal operation to ensure consistent and safe performance.
- Perform routine and minor preventative maintenance on plant equipment, including pumps, compressors, and valves, and generate work orders for more complex repairs.
- Troubleshoot process upsets and equipment malfunctions, analyzing data and field information to identify root causes and implement corrective actions swiftly.
- Collect and analyze process samples using laboratory equipment to ensure hydrogen purity and quality specifications are consistently met.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate operational logs, shift reports, and maintenance records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the receiving, handling, and inventory of raw materials and chemicals, ensuring proper storage and adherence to safety data sheets (SDS).
- Safely load and unload hydrogen into tube trailers or pipeline distribution systems, ensuring all connections and procedures are followed correctly.
- Implement and strictly adhere to all Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols, including participating in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
- Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, permit-to-work systems, and other critical safety protocols before any maintenance or non-routine work.
- Respond effectively to plant alarms and emergencies, taking predefined actions to stabilize the process and ensure the safety of all personnel and assets.
- Monitor and control plant emissions and waste streams to ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental permits and regulations.
- Participate in the development and revision of operating procedures, safety guidelines, and training materials.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work performed, track parts usage, and manage work orders.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and safety teams to plan and execute scheduled outages and plant turnarounds efficiently.
- Perform calibration checks on critical instrumentation and control loops to ensure measurement accuracy and process stability.
- Operate and maintain utility systems essential for plant operation, such as demineralized water, cooling towers, and instrument air systems.
- Act as a key member of the site's emergency response team, participating in drills and training for fire, chemical spill, and medical incidents.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior operators and new team members to build site-wide competency.
Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Process Control Systems: Proficiency with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) such as Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, or Siemens PCS 7.
- Hydrogen Technology: Strong understanding of hydrogen production processes, specifically Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) or water electrolysis.
- Process Safety Management (PSM): In-depth knowledge and practical experience with PSM elements, including LOTO, MOC, and permit-to-work.

Experience Requirements
