Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Direct and oversee all clinical and administrative operations of the Medical Imaging department, including Diagnostic Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and Mammography.
- Develop and execute a long-term strategic vision for imaging services that aligns with the organization's overall goals, focusing on growth, innovation, and service line expansion.
- Ensure continuous compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards from bodies such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
- Manage the department's fiscal performance by preparing, monitoring, and controlling the annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation and financial viability.
- Lead the capital equipment planning process, including technology assessment, procurement, installation, and lifecycle management for all imaging modalities.
- Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and professional development to a diverse team of imaging managers, supervisors, technologists, and support staff.
- Manage all human resources functions for the department, including recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance evaluations, coaching, disciplinary action, and succession planning.
- Champion and implement continuous quality improvement (CQI) and patient safety initiatives, utilizing data-driven methodologies to enhance image quality, reduce turnaround times, and improve the patient experience.
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists, medical staff, and other hospital leaders to ensure seamless care coordination and the integration of imaging services across the continuum of care.
- Oversee the management and optimization of key imaging information systems, including the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and departmental metrics related to volume, productivity, quality, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating favorable contracts for equipment service, supplies, and outsourced services.
- Develop, review, and update all departmental policies, procedures, and protocols to reflect best practices and ensure standardized, high-quality operations.
- Act as the primary liaison between the imaging department and hospital administration, effectively communicating departmental achievements, challenges, and needs.
- Lead change management efforts related to the implementation of new technologies, workflows, or service delivery models within the department.
