The Imaging Manager serves as the operational and clinical leader for the Diagnostic Imaging department. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and coordinate all operational activities within the imaging department, encompassing multiple modalities such as MRI, CT, X-Ray, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and protocols in strict accordance with federal, state, and The Joint Commission (TJC) regulatory standards.
  • Manage departmental human resources, including the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing training of clinical and support staff to build a high-performing team.
  • Conduct regular staff performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback and coaching, and manage disciplinary actions when necessary to foster professional development and accountability.
  • Prepare and manage the department's annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring expenditures, analyzing variances, and implementing corrective actions to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Oversee the procurement, installation, and maintenance of all imaging equipment, managing service contracts and ensuring technology remains current and fully operational.
  • Lead the department's Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) programs, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and driving initiatives to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.
  • Ensure the department's continuous compliance with American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation standards for all applicable modalities, leading the team through survey processes.
  • Collaborate closely with Radiologists and Medical Staff to optimize imaging protocols, ensure report turnaround times meet established goals, and resolve clinical issues.
  • Champion patient safety initiatives, including radiation safety protocols (ALARA), MRI safety screening, and infection control measures throughout the department.

  • Address and resolve patient, family, and physician complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner, using feedback to improve departmental processes.
  • Evaluate and recommend new imaging technologies and software that can enhance diagnostic capabilities, improve workflow efficiency, and support strategic growth.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, open communication, and a strong culture of patient-centered care.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the imaging department and other hospital departments, such as the Emergency Department, Inpatient Units, and Surgical Services, to ensure seamless patient care coordination.
  • Oversee the management of inventory and supplies for the department, ensuring necessary materials are available while controlling costs.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology. Certified and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is strongly required.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or a related clinical management field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

Prior experience as an Imaging Manager overseeing multiple modalities, managing departmental budgets, and leading successful ACR accreditation surveys within a hospital or large outpatient center environment.
