Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Administer a wide range of immunizations to pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations in strict accordance with current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) schedules and clinical best practices.
Conduct thorough pre-vaccination screenings for contraindications and precautions, ensuring patient safety is the highest priority before any administration.
Provide comprehensive and culturally sensitive patient and family education regarding vaccine benefits, risks, potential side effects, and the importance of completing recommended immunization series.
Obtain informed consent from patients or legal guardians, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the vaccines being administered and have had all their questions answered.
Ensure the accurate and timely documentation of all immunizations administered, patient consent, and related clinical information within the electronic health record (EHR) system and state immunization information systems (IIS).
Oversee the entire vaccine lifecycle, including meticulous ordering, receiving, and inventory management, ensuring optimal stock levels and minimizing waste through careful monitoring of expiration dates.
Maintain the integrity of the vaccine cold chain by strictly adhering to storage and handling protocols, including daily temperature monitoring and documentation for all refrigerators and freezers.
Prepare and manage vaccination clinics, both on-site and in off-site community settings, ensuring all supplies, documentation, and emergency protocols are in place.
Generate and analyze immunization coverage reports to identify patient populations in need of outreach and to assess clinic performance against local, state, and national public health targets.
