Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Greet customers warmly and proactively engage with them to understand needs, offering tailored product recommendations and solutions that increase customer satisfaction and drive revenue.
- Achieve and consistently exceed daily, weekly and monthly sales targets by executing effective sales techniques including consultative selling, cross-selling, and upselling while maintaining a customer-first approach.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately to process sales transactions, returns, exchanges, layaways, and gift card purchases; ensure correct handling of multiple payment methods (cash, card, mobile payments).
- Maintain comprehensive product knowledge across departments—features, benefits, pricing, promotions, warranties and care instructions—to confidently educate customers and close sales.
- Execute floor merchandising and visual standards according to company planograms and visual merchandising guidelines, ensuring displays are stocked, clean and current to maximize conversion.
- Receive, inspect and accurately tag incoming merchandise; perform timely put-away and replenishment to ensure optimum on-floor availability and minimize out-of-stock situations.
- Conduct daily opening and/or closing procedures including cash drawer reconciliation, deposits, store security checks, and store readiness assessments to protect assets and ensure smooth operations.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints promptly and professionally, escalating complex issues to management when necessary while documenting outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Perform regular inventory counts, cycle counts and assist with annual or quarterly physical inventories, reporting discrepancies and participating in root-cause analysis to reduce shrinkage.
- Follow loss prevention procedures, including monitoring for suspicious behavior, adhering to cash-handling policies, securing high-value merchandise, and completing incident reports as required.
- Support promotional rollouts and seasonal resets by unpacking, organizing and merchandising campaign materials, signage and promotional fixtures to maximize promotional ROI.
- Assist customers with fitting, product trials or demonstrations; provide accurate sizing, fit and usage guidance while maintaining product condition and presentation.
- Process and fulfill in-store pickup orders and assist with e-commerce returns and exchanges to create a seamless omnichannel customer experience.
- Maintain accurate pricing and signage on the sales floor by performing price checks, markdowns, and relabeling to preserve pricing integrity and customer trust.
- Use CRM and sales reporting tools to log customer interactions, follow up on leads, schedule callbacks, and contribute to local sales initiatives and loyalty program enrollment.
- Prepare and maintain stockroom organization, ensuring safety compliance, proper rotation of merchandise (FIFO), and ease of access for quick replenishment during high-traffic periods.
- Participate in daily and weekly team huddles, training sessions and on-the-floor coaching to improve product knowledge, sales techniques and customer service standards.
- Support loss prevention audits and security protocols such as bag checks, restricted access enforcement, and emergency response drills to maintain a safe environment for customers and staff.
- Provide feedback to management on customer trends, product performance, inventory needs and merchandising effectiveness to influence buying and marketing decisions.
- Demonstrate consistent professional behavior, timely attendance and reliability; adhere to company policies, labor laws and local regulations at all times.
- Conduct basic maintenance of the sales floor and fixtures—dusting, sweeping, folding, and straightening—to maintain an appealing shopping atmosphere and brand standards.
- Assist in onboarding and mentoring new hires by sharing best practices, demonstrating POS procedures, and modeling company culture to build a high-performing team.
- Coordinate with receiving and distribution teams to track backordered items, special orders or transfers and communicate expected timelines to customers.
- Collect and report customer feedback and competitive intelligence (pricing, promotions, product availability) to store leadership for strategic response.
- Support store-level marketing events and community outreach initiatives by staffing demos, product sampling, and special events that drive traffic and build brand affinity.
Secondary Functions
