Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Prepare, maintain and aseptically manipulate mammalian cell lines and primary cells using industry-standard sterile technique to support short- and long-term in vitro experiments, ensuring cell health and reproducibility of assays.
  • Execute and troubleshoot a variety of cell-based assays (e.g., viability, cytotoxicity, reporter assays, proliferation assays, migration/invasion assays) from plate setup through data capture and initial QC review.
  • Perform routine and specialized pipetting and liquid handling tasks with high accuracy across 96-, 384- and 1536-well plate formats, operating manual and automated dispensers to meet throughput targets.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory instrumentation including biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, plate readers, fluorescence microscopes, centrifuges, and automated liquid handlers, ensuring routine calibration and maintenance logs are up to date.
  • Prepare cell culture media, buffers, reagents and compound working solutions according to SOPs, perform serial dilutions, and document lot numbers and expiration dates for traceability.
  • Cryopreserve and thaw cell stocks, establish and maintain master and working cell banks, and monitor cell line authentication and mycoplasma testing status to prevent contamination risk.
  • Execute sample preparation for downstream assays such as qPCR, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, and flow cytometry, ensuring appropriate fixation, permeabilization, and staining protocols are followed.
  • Conduct plate-based readouts using microplate readers, high-content imagers, and other detection platforms, perform first-pass data integrity checks, and flag anomalous results to supervising scientists.
  • Follow GLP/GMP-adjacent documentation practices by maintaining accurate bench notebooks, electronic lab notebook (ELN) entries, and laboratory information management system (LIMS) records for sample tracking and experimental metadata.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols including proper use of PPE, handling and disposal of biohazardous waste, chemical safety practices, and participation in regular biosafety training and audits.
  • Assist with assay transfer and scale-up activities, following established protocols and documenting any deviations or optimizations to support reproducibility in other labs or sites.
  • Carry out routine quality control tasks such as inventory checks, monitoring reagent stocks, ordering consumables, and managing cold-chain storage to ensure uninterrupted experimental workflows.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings and cross-functional project discussions to report experimental progress, coordinate timelines with scientists, and prioritize workload to meet project milestones.
  • Support the validation and qualification of new laboratory equipment and methods by executing validation runs, capturing performance data, and drafting sections of validation documentation under supervision.
  • Identify, investigate and report root causes for assay failures or unexpected variability, recommending corrective actions and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to increase assay robustness and throughput.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians, interns and rotating students on aseptic technique, proper equipment use, and laboratory best practices to maintain consistent performance across the team.
  • Implement and follow SOPs for sample labeling, chain of custody, and data security to ensure regulatory compliance and protect proprietary research information.
  • Collaborate with procurement and vendors for repair, maintenance agreements and sourcing of critical reagents and lab consumables to minimize downtime and control costs.
  • Support compound management activities including plate reformatting, barcoding, aliquoting and secure storage, while maintaining accurate tracking in LIMS or inventory systems.
  • Coordinate basic data processing tasks such as exporting plate reader files, performing initial normalizations and preparing data packages for scientists, ensuring clarity and reproducibility of delivered datasets.
  • Participate in cross-training across upstream and downstream tasks (e.g., transfections, viral transductions, immunoassays) to build a flexible skill set that supports diverse project needs.
  • Assist in drafting and updating SOPs, protocol templates, and training materials to reflect procedural improvements and ensure knowledge capture across the team.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment by scheduling and performing routine sterilization, decontamination and waste management procedures to support compliance and team safety.
  • Ensure timely communication of experimental issues, supply shortages, and potential safety concerns to the laboratory supervisor and safety officer to support risk mitigation.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc experimental requests from scientists, providing technical execution and timely turn-around for pilot studies or feasibility screens.
  • Assist in assay optimization experiments, executing controlled parameter changes and documenting the impact on assay metrics such as signal-to-noise, Z' factor and CV.
  • Help prepare technical summaries and experiment-ready datasets for project meetings, internal reviews and external collaborators.
  • Provide logistical support for large screening campaigns, coordinating plate setup schedules, reagent batching and instrument availability.
  • Contribute to reagent qualification activities by performing incoming QC checks and recording performance baselines for new lots.
  • Train new hires on lab safety, aseptic technique and platform-specific workflows to accelerate onboarding and reduce error rates.
  • Support method development projects by running design-of-experiment (DoE) matrices under supervision and capturing detailed run conditions for analysis.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean initiatives to streamline workflow, reduce waste, and enhance laboratory capacity.
  • Act as a backup for sample shipment preparation and documentation, ensuring cold-chain integrity and compliance with shipping regulations.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
