Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Actively participate in the loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, and shipping containers, ensuring materials are handled carefully to prevent damage.
- Accurately pick, pack, and scan orders using an RF scanner or paper-based pick lists to meet customer and production demands.
- Safely operate manual and powered material handling equipment, including pallet jacks, dollies, and hand trucks, to move inventory throughout the facility.
- Perform assembly line tasks, which may include constructing components, attaching parts, or inspecting products as they move through the production process.
- Sort, stack, and organize raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods in designated storage areas, racks, or shelves.
- Prepare finished products for shipment by boxing, wrapping, labeling, and palletizing items according to shipping specifications.
- Conduct regular quality control checks on products and materials, identifying and reporting any defects, damages, or discrepancies to a supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by sweeping floors, removing debris, and adhering to all company housekeeping standards.
- Follow all established safety protocols, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhering to Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Assist in the receiving process by verifying incoming shipments against purchase orders, noting any damages or shortages.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, or verbal instructions to understand daily tasks and performance goals.
- Operate basic production machinery under supervision, including tasks like feeding materials into machines or monitoring equipment operation.
- Weigh, measure, and count products and materials to ensure order accuracy and maintain precise inventory records.
- Assist in periodic and annual inventory counts, contributing to the overall accuracy of the facility's stock levels.
- Wrap and secure pallets of finished goods using shrink wrap machines or by hand to ensure stability during transit.
- Break down and dispose of cardboard, plastics, and other waste materials in designated recycling and trash compactors.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding any production issues, safety concerns, or workflow improvements.
- Monitor inventory levels of packing supplies such as boxes, tape, and labels, and report shortages to the appropriate personnel.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and other regulatory standards applicable to the specific industry (e.g., food, medical).
- Cross-train in different departments or work cells to provide flexible support and cover for absences as needed by the business.
- Perform minor troubleshooting on equipment and report any mechanical failures or maintenance needs to the maintenance team promptly.
Secondary Functions
- Assist with periodic cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to ensure data accuracy.
