Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop exceptionally detailed and photorealistic 3D models of industrial products, components, and machinery from 2D sketches, CAD data, or engineering specifications.
  • Create visually stunning and accurate renderings and illustrations for use in design reviews, client presentations, and executive-level pitches.
  • Produce high-quality, cinematic animations and product fly-throughs that clearly demonstrate product functionality, assembly, and key features for marketing and training purposes.
  • Translate complex engineering CAD data (like STEP, IGES) into clean, usable polygonal geometry suitable for high-end rendering and real-time visualization.
  • Design and develop a wide range of realistic materials, textures, and shaders (PBR workflows) that accurately represent metals, plastics, glass, fabrics, and other industrial finishes.
  • Establish and perfect lighting schemes within 3D scenes to highlight product form, features, and materials, creating mood and emphasizing design intent.
  • Conceptualize and create complete virtual environments and studio setups to stage products for lifestyle shots and contextual marketing imagery.
  • Collaborate directly with Industrial Designers and Product Engineers to iterate on product concepts, providing rapid visual feedback to accelerate the design process.
  • Generate a variety of visual assets for product launch campaigns, including high-resolution images for print, web, social media, and packaging.
  • Retouch, composite, and color-grade final renderings and animations to achieve a polished, commercial-quality final product.
  • Manage and organize a large library of 3D assets, materials, and textures to ensure efficiency and consistency across all projects.
  • Stay relentlessly up-to-date with the latest advancements in 3D software, rendering technology, and visualization techniques to keep our visual output cutting-edge.
  • Develop and optimize 3D models and materials for use in real-time applications, such as VR/AR experiences, interactive configurators, or game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity.

Secondary Functions

  • Actively participate in design review meetings, providing visual support and artistic feedback to guide product development decisions.
  • Assist the marketing and sales teams by creating bespoke visual content tailored to specific campaigns, trade shows, or customer requests.
  • Help create and maintain brand-specific visualization guidelines to ensure a consistent and high-quality look and feel across all product imagery.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior artists and interns, sharing knowledge of best practices, techniques, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Explore and prototype new visualization technologies and tools, presenting findings and recommendations for potential adoption by the team.
  • Create basic motion graphics and title sequences to supplement product animations and videos.
  • Collaborate with the documentation team to produce clear and concise technical illustrations and exploded views for user manuals and service guides.
  • Manage rendering pipelines and utilize render farms effectively to meet tight deadlines and manage computational resources.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert-level proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, or Cinema 4D.
  • Deep understanding of advanced rendering engines like V-Ray, Corona, Arnold, or KeyShot to achieve photorealism.
  • Strong competency in handling and converting CAD data from formats like SolidWorks, Rhino, CATIA, or Creo.
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop for post-production and texture creation, and After Effects for animation compositing.
  • Experience with procedural texturing software like Substance Painter/Designer for creating realistic, detailed materials.
  • A solid understanding of polygonal modeling techniques, with a focus on creating clean, efficient, and water-tight geometry for hard-surface models.
  • Knowledge of real-time 3D engines (Unreal Engine, Unity) and PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows is a significant advantage.
