Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Manage the complete procurement lifecycle, from identifying needs and issuing Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to placing purchase orders and verifying receipt of goods.
  • Develop, negotiate, and execute purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers to secure advantageous terms regarding price, quality, delivery, and payment.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key suppliers and vendors to ensure a reliable and efficient supply chain.
  • Proactively source, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers globally and domestically to mitigate risk, encourage competition, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Analyze market trends, price fluctuations, and delivery conditions to anticipate changes in availability and cost, adjusting procurement strategies accordingly.
  • Monitor and control inventory levels for assigned commodities or product lines to prevent stockouts and minimize excess carrying costs, working closely with planning and production teams.
  • Lead supplier performance management initiatives, conducting regular reviews and using scorecards to measure performance against key metrics like on-time delivery, quality, and cost.
  • Drive cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives through strategic sourcing, negotiation, value engineering, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and quality assurance departments to ensure that all purchased materials and components meet required technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Resolve complex issues related to supplier quality, delivery delays, invoice discrepancies, and other supply chain disruptions in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, cost savings, and market intelligence to senior management.
  • Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company policies, ethical standards, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize and maintain the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to manage purchase orders, supplier data, and inventory.
  • Evaluate and process purchase requisitions, verifying specifications and ensuring proper authorization before converting them into purchase orders.
  • Develop and implement commodity strategies to optimize the supply base and leverage purchasing power for specific categories of spend.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the accounts payable department by resolving complex invoice and payment discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for new product introductions (NPI) or capital expenditure projects, providing procurement expertise and sourcing support.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement processes, policies, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing and managing the departmental budget for purchasing operations.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the procurement team, sharing best practices and industry knowledge.
