Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Prepare a wide range of metal and composite surfaces for painting by cleaning, washing, degreasing, sanding, grinding, and masking to ensure optimal coating adhesion.
Operate sandblasting, shot-blasting, and other abrasive blasting equipment to effectively remove old paint, rust, and other contaminants from surfaces in accordance with project specifications.
Select and mix primers, paints, and coatings to precise color and viscosity specifications, following technical data sheets and manufacturing guidelines.
Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats using various industrial application methods, including airless sprayers, High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) guns, conventional pots, and brush/roll techniques.
Set up, operate, and maintain all painting equipment, including spray guns, pumps, hoses, and pressure pots, ensuring they are in good working order.
Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and work orders to understand painting requirements, surface-prep standards, and final finish specifications.
Perform quality control checks on finished products to ensure proper mil thickness (DFT), adhesion, and cosmetic appearance, identifying and correcting any defects or inconsistencies.
Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
Consistently wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and full-body suits.
Monitor painting processes and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) to ensure ideal conditions for coating application and curing.
Document work performed, including material usage, time, and quality inspection results on production travelers or digital tracking systems.
Prepare and paint large and small components, equipment, and structural fabrications in a fast-paced production environment.

Secondary Functions

Perform routine and preventative maintenance on painting and blasting equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
Assist in maintaining inventory of paints, solvents, and other painting supplies by monitoring stock levels and reporting needs to a supervisor.
Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and assemblers to coordinate workflow and ensure projects move efficiently through the production stages.
Participate in regular safety meetings, contribute to a culture of safety, and identify potential hazards in the work area.
Keep the paint booth, mixing room, and entire work area clean, organized, and free of clutter to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
Assist in training and mentoring new painters or apprentices on company procedures, safety standards, and painting techniques.
Troubleshoot painting issues, such as runs, sags, and orange peel, and implement corrective actions to achieve a high-quality finish.
Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move large parts and equipment into and out of the paint booth safely.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
