Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own and drive the end-to-end innovation lifecycle: discover strategic opportunity areas, run ideation sprints, prioritize concepts, oversee rapid prototyping, design pilots, and shepherd validated solutions toward commercialization and scale.
  • Develop and maintain the corporate innovation strategy and roadmap aligned to executive priorities, market trends, and the organization’s long-term growth objectives.
  • Facilitate cross-functional innovation workshops using design thinking and lean startup methodologies to generate, refine and prioritize high-impact ideas with measurable business outcomes.
  • Lead technology and market scouting programs to identify emerging technologies, startups, academic research and competitive threats that could create new business opportunities or disrupt existing lines.
  • Build robust business cases and financial models for pilot and scale investments, articulating ROI, break-even timelines, costs, resource requirements and risk mitigation strategies for executive review.
  • Design, manage and evaluate pilots and minimum viable product (MVP) experiments including hypothesis definition, success metrics (KPIs), experiment design, user testing, and go/no-go decision frameworks.
  • Manage an innovation or new-ventures portfolio, balancing early-stage discovery work with later-stage commercialization projects and continuously re-prioritizing based on evidence and KPIs.
  • Lead external partnerships, including scouting, negotiating and managing relationships with startups, accelerators, vendors, research institutions and strategic partners to source capabilities and accelerate delivery.
  • Own go-to-market planning for validated innovations: define target customers, pricing approaches, channel strategies, launch timelines and handover processes to product and business units.
  • Align stakeholders across product, engineering, legal, compliance, finance and marketing to remove roadblocks and ensure timely progress against innovation milestones.
  • Establish and track success metrics and dashboards for innovation programs (e.g., time-to-prototype, pilot conversion rate, customer adoption, revenue from new products) and report insights to senior leadership.
  • Champion a repeatable experimentation culture by documenting playbooks, templates, governed processes and learnings to scale best practices across the organization.
  • Secure and manage innovation budgets, forecasting expenses, tracking spend versus value, and making resource allocation recommendations to maximize portfolio impact.
  • Mentor product owners, designers, and engineers on rapid prototyping, user-centered research and validation techniques to increase internal capability.
  • Coordinate regulatory assessments and ensure new concepts comply with relevant legal, compliance and privacy requirements early in the discovery process.
  • Lead intellectual property strategy with legal partners: advise on patentability, trademarks, licensing and how IP affects commercialization decisions.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements, partnerships and pilot terms to protect company interests while accelerating time-to-market with external collaborators.
  • Run stakeholder engagement programs including regular executive briefings, steering committees, and cross-functional update cadences to secure sponsorship and alignment.
  • Translate qualitative user research and quantitative market analysis into actionable product requirements and prioritized roadmaps that meet user needs and business goals.
  • Implement governance frameworks for experimentation and pilot-to-scale decisioning, including stage gates, investment criteria and exit criteria for projects.
  • Design and run corporate innovation programs such as internal hackathons, intrapreneurship accelerators, or challenge-based sourcing campaigns to surface talent and ideas.
  • Conduct competitive landscape analyses and scenario planning to recommend proactive product and business responses to industry shifts.
  • Source and analyze customer insights from interviews, beta tests and analytics, and convert those insights into validated improvements or pivots in product direction.
  • Build a talent roadmap for innovation capability: identify skills gaps, hire or develop internal talent, and coordinate with HR on learning programs to sustain innovation velocity.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc analytics requests and partner with data teams to interpret experiment results, A/B tests and user behavior metrics that inform product decisions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Product Design, Computer Science, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • MBA, MSc/MEng in Innovation Management, Product Management or a technical master’s in a relevant discipline.
  • Certifications in Design Thinking, Lean Startup, Agile/Scrum, or Product Management are a strong plus.
