Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own the end-to-end innovation planning cycle: develop multi-year innovation roadmaps that align with corporate strategy, prioritize initiatives by strategic value and feasibility, and maintain the innovation backlog to ensure continuous discovery and delivery.
  • Lead market, technology and trend scanning to identify white-space opportunities and emerging threats; synthesize insights into actionable opportunity briefs and strategic recommendations for leadership.
  • Design and manage hypothesis-driven experiments and pilot programs, including clear success criteria, KPIs, timelines, cross-functional roles, and data collection plans to validate value and feasibility.
  • Produce robust business cases for new concepts, including revenue and cost modeling, sensitivity analysis, ROI estimates, and funding requests to secure executive approval and budget allocation.
  • Facilitate ideation workshops and co-creation sessions using design thinking and structured innovation frameworks to generate, refine and prioritize high-potential concepts with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (product, engineering, design, legal, compliance, operations, marketing and sales) to remove blockers, ensure alignment, and maintain momentum on priority pilots and experiments.
  • Manage the innovation governance process: prepare steering committee agendas, status summaries, risk assessments, decision logs, and recommendations to enable rapid, informed executive decisions.
  • Define and track innovation performance metrics (e.g., validated learnings, conversion rates from concept to pilot, time-to-pilot, cost-per-experiment, ARR potential) and deliver concise, data-driven progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Oversee prototype and MVP development cycles, set scope for rapid prototyping, and ensure user testing and feedback loops inform iterative product improvements.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with startups, universities, research labs, incubators and vendors to source external technologies, co-innovation opportunities and pilot partners.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and change management activities to secure adoption, surface adoption risks, design go-to-market readiness and support scale planning for pilots that demonstrate product-market fit.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and mapping to understand positioning, pricing, and feature differentials; translate competitive insights into product or go-to-market adjustments.
  • Manage budgets and resource allocation for innovation initiatives, including tracking spend against approved pilots, forecasting resourcing needs, and optimizing portfolio spend for highest strategic return.
  • Facilitate handoff of validated pilots to scale teams; produce operational readiness documents, transition plans, product requirement packages and launch playbooks to minimize friction in scaling.
  • Apply regulatory and IP evaluation early in concept planning to identify legal constraints, IP opportunities and compliance considerations, and coordinate with legal counsel to mitigate risks.
  • Establish and maintain an idea intake and evaluation framework β€” including scoring models, gating criteria and stage-gate processes β€” to ensure transparent prioritization and consistent decision making.
  • Run qualitative and quantitative customer research, including ethnographic interviews, usability testing, surveys and analytics review, to validate problem-solution fit and refine value propositions.
  • Lead open innovation initiatives and corporate venturing engagements by evaluating startup pilots, conducting due diligence, negotiating pilot agreements and managing pilot performance.
  • Develop and deliver executive-level presentations and stakeholder communications that synthesize outcomes, lessons learned, and recommended next steps for portfolio decisions.
  • Create and maintain innovation playbooks, templates and repeatable processes (e.g., experiment design templates, business case templates, risk assessment frameworks) to increase throughput and quality of innovation work.
  • Conduct post-pilot retrospectives and lessons-learned sessions to capture insights, update playbooks and inform future prioritization and resource planning.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility through collaboration with engineering leads and data teams; recommend appropriate build vs. buy decisions and run technical spike investigations as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement by measuring the impact of innovation capability interventions (e.g., training, tooling, governance changes) and implementing improvements to increase velocity and conversion rates.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation by training and mentoring business stakeholders in lean startup methods, hypothesis-driven discovery and rapid prototyping best practices.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Design, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree (MBA, MSc in Innovation/Design/Technology Management) or equivalent executive education in innovation, product strategy or entrepreneurship.
