Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct detailed pre-installation site surveys, assess site readiness, confirm power, clearance, cabling pathways, environmental conditions, and report any potential issues to project management in writing.
  • Install mechanical mounts, racks, enclosures, and equipment per manufacturer specifications and project drawings, ensuring alignment, torque, and fastener integrity to meet safety and quality standards.
  • Perform electrical terminations, wiring, and grounding activities in accordance with NEC/local electrical codes and company procedures, including labeling and verification of connections.
  • Run, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling (cat5e/cat6/UTP/STP, single-mode/multi-mode fiber) using industry-standard tools and provide test reports (OTDR, fusion splice logs, certification testing).
  • Configure, commission, and validate networked devices and control systems (routers, switches, PLCs, HMIs, IoT gateways) including IP addressing, VLANs, firmware updates, and secure access configuration.
  • Execute equipment startup and commissioning procedures, perform functional verification against acceptance criteria, capture baseline performance data, and complete customer Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) and punch list closure.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues onsite using systematic root-cause analysis, logic flows, schematics, and diagnostic tools to restore systems to operational status.
  • Calibrate and tune sensors, transmitters, actuators, RF components, or other instrumentation to manufacturer tolerances and customer specifications, documenting calibration certificates as required.
  • Maintain accurate installation records, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, configuration files, and as-built documentation in company systems (CRM/ERP, ticketing, or document management platforms).
  • Ensure strict adherence to on-site safety protocols including PPE, lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work permits, confined space entry procedures, and report near-misses or incidents immediately to site safety officers.
  • Coordinate logistics for on-site resources: schedule deliveries, manage staging areas, reconcile material lists and kit contents, and escalate shortage or damage to procurement and PMs prior to work start.
  • Supervise and mentor junior installers or subcontractors during installations, provide work direction, monitor quality, and verify workmanship meets contractual and regulatory standards.
  • Interface directly with customers during installations to explain functional operation, demonstrate system capabilities, gather feedback, and obtain formal sign-off on completed work.
  • Use handheld and bench test equipment (multimeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope, signal generator, OTDR, power analyzer) to validate electrical integrity and performance of installed systems.
  • Implement software deployments, load configuration templates, apply security hardening, and perform basic scripting or parameter tuning to integrate devices with existing enterprise systems.
  • Generate daily site progress reports, time sheets, service reports, and detailed installation closeout packages that include photos, serial numbers, and inspection checklists.
  • Apply manufacturer warranty procedures including field repair, replacement coordination, and RMA processing while documenting root cause and corrective actions for long-term fixes.
  • Participate in pre- and post-installation meetings with project stakeholders, provide technical feedback for design improvements, and identify opportunities to reduce installation time and cost.
  • Maintain and manage tools, test equipment, spare parts, and calibration records; ensure portable tools are inspected, tagged, and stored per company policy.
  • Respond to on-call or emergency installations as needed, provide timely escalation to engineering teams for complex defects, and support continuous operation with remote diagnostics when on-site access is limited.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory and contractual requirements such as FCC, CE markings, local permitting, hazardous material handling, and disposal policies.
  • Perform final quality assurance inspections and ensure all corrective actions are completed before handing over systems to customer operations teams.
  • Create and deliver customer training sessions or handover workshops covering operational basics, routine maintenance, troubleshooting steps, and escalation paths.

Secondary Functions

  • Support sales and engineering teams by conducting technical site assessments for proposals, providing accurate installation effort estimates, and advising on constructability or design alternatives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by documenting recurring installation obstacles, proposing standardized kits or processes, and contributing to lessons-learned reviews.
  • Assist in inventory control for spares and consumables, update material tracking systems, and coordinate returns or replenishment with warehouse teams.
  • Provide post-installation support including follow-up visits, performance tuning, warranty troubleshooting, and minor upgrades requested by clients.
  • Deliver internal training sessions and knowledge transfer to expand team capabilities, standardize best practices, and reduce onboarding time for new hires.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and third-party vendors to coordinate site access, permits, and shared resources while ensuring compliance with company quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain CE/UL/ISO documentation and verify that installed equipment remains compliant with certification requirements throughout the lifecycle of the asset.
  • Assist product teams by collecting real-world feedback about installation pain points and feature requests to inform future product iterations.
  • Support company on-call rotation and emergency response planning to provide rapid response and minimize customer downtime.
  • Prepare and archive installation closeout packages and ensure data integrity in the company’s project management system for future reference and audits.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
