Primary Functions
- Perform end-to-end installation of equipment and systems at customer sites, including reading blueprints and technical diagrams, mounting hardware, running cabling, making electrical connections, and securing fixtures to meet manufacturer specifications and local code requirements.

- Perform fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing (OTDR traces, insertion loss testing) where applicable; ensure optical power and loss budgets meet design specifications and service level agreements.
- Install, terminate, and test copper, coaxial, and structured Ethernet cabling (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a), ensuring correct routing, labeling, and compliance with TIA/EIA standards.
- Follow electrical safety protocols while making live and switched connections, properly sizing breakers and wiring, testing for correct polarity and grounding, and documenting any code deviations for remediation.
- Complete system checkout and site acceptance tests, document results in customer reports, and obtain formal sign-off; provide clear, professional handover and demonstrate basic operation to customers.
- Maintain accurate, timely installation records and service documentation in company CRM or field service management software, including photos, serial numbers, testing logs, time on site, and parts usage for warranty and billing.
- Coordinate with dispatchers, project managers, and other trades (electricians, general contractors) to sequence work, secure access, and meet project timelines while minimizing customer disruption.
- Ensure all installed systems meet manufacturer warranty requirements and company quality standards; perform final inspections and identify any punch-list items for follow-up.
- Maintain a well-stocked service vehicle with necessary tools, parts, and safety equipment; perform routine vehicle inspections and report supply shortages to the supervisor.
- Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, ladder and fall protection procedures, confined space protocols, and OSHA/industry safety standards while on job sites.
- Escalate complex technical problems to senior technicians or engineering teams when necessary, and provide clear diagnostic information to speed remote support or parts replacement.
- Execute preventive maintenance and system upgrades during initial installation or routine service calls, recommending improvements and replacement schedules to customers based on observed conditions.
- Manage onsite customer interactions professionally: explain work scope, answer questions, obtain approvals for change orders, and ensure positive customer satisfaction during and after installations.
- Handle and test power systems, batteries, UPS units or backup generators associated with installed equipment, verifying continuity and proper charging/backup operation during power loss scenarios.
- Diagnose environmental issues affecting system performance (RF interference, excessive heat, moisture) and implement mitigations such as repositioning, shielding, or ventilation improvements.
- Assemble, mount and repair racks, enclosures and mounting hardware for electronics and network equipment, ensuring secure and organized cable management and cooling considerations.
- Follow inventory control procedures: accurately record used parts, request replenishment for low stock items, and assist with return/repair shipping for damaged or defective components.
- Train customers and onsite staff on basic operation, preventive care, and first-step troubleshooting of installed systems; provide written quick-start guides and escalate training needs to support teams if required.
- Meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time arrival, first-time fix rate, mean time to repair (MTTR), and customer satisfaction (CSAT) scores.
- Support installation project coordination for larger multi-discipline jobs, including pre-install site surveys, measurement verification, and punchlist follow-through to completion.
- Maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations related to electrical, telecommunications, and building codes; obtain required permits or provide documentation for permit-ready installations.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities: suggest process, tool, or kit changes that reduce install time, increase safety, or improve quality and consistency across the field team.
