- Reconcile interest income and expense accounts on a recurring schedule (daily/weekly/monthly), investigate variances, prepare journal entries and coordinate with general ledger accounting to close period-end differences.
- Validate and configure product parameters (rate tiers, tier thresholds, interest formulas, float rules, compounding rules) within core banking systems (e.g., Fiserv, Jack Henry, Oracle FLEXCUBE, Temenos) prior to rate changes and product launches.
- Execute rate change plays including schedule creation, system parameter updates, batch job runs, and verification testing to confirm correct pricing and interest impact across affected accounts and channels.
- Lead root-cause analyses for interest-related discrepancies and customer complaints by querying system data, reviewing transaction detail, and providing written recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements.
- Investigate and resolve complex customer escalations related to underpaid interest, misapplied interest, incorrect effective dates, or post-dated payments, communicating outcomes clearly to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Prepare and maintain detailed operational procedures, control matrices and reconciliations for internal teams and auditors; ensure all interest processes are documented, version-controlled and audit-ready.
- Support internal and external audits (SOX, internal audit, regulator exams) by producing detailed workpapers, providing system extracts, explaining business processes, and remediating control gaps related to interest operations.
- Run batch interest jobs and ad-hoc scripts, review exception reports, and manage exception queues to resolution while maintaining SLA targets and operational KPIs.
- Partner with product, treasury and finance teams to model pricing scenarios, quantify interest rate sensitivity, and support decision-making for product design, repricing strategy and profitability improvement.
- Design and deliver comprehensive test plans and execute UAT/QA for system upgrades, vendor patches, or new product rollouts that impact interest calculation or posting behavior.
- Build, maintain and distribute standardized and ad-hoc interest performance reports and dashboards (using Excel, Power BI, Tableau) tracking yields, spread analytics, fee offsets and operational exception trends.
- Maintain knowledge of federal and state regulatory guidance affecting interest practices (e.g., Reg Z, Reg DD, Truth-in-Savings), implement changes to procedures and systems, and ensure business compliance with statutory disclosure and posting requirements.
- Implement and monitor internal controls for interest calculation, posting, and reconciliation processes including segregation of duties, system access reviews and exception handling workflows.
- Coordinate cross-functional remediation projects to correct systemic interest posting issues—define scope, drive stakeholder engagement, manage timelines and validate remediation results.
- Train and mentor junior operations staff and new team members on interest calculation methodologies, system navigation, exception handling and best practices for customer communication.
- Collaborate with IT and vendors to troubleshoot system incidents affecting interest processing, create defect tickets, prioritize fixes and validate patched environments.
- Monitor nightly and intraday processing feeds (ACH, wires, internal clearing) to ensure interest-affecting transactions post correctly and escalate processing failures to appropriate teams for timely resolution.
- Review and approve manual interest adjustments, reversals and corrective entries in accordance with policy, documenting rationale and obtaining required approvals to maintain audit trails.
- Assess and recommend automation opportunities and parameter changes to reduce manual effort, decrease error rates and improve scalability of interest operations.
- Maintain and administer interest rate tables, promotional pricing schedules and term product matrices, ensuring historical versions are archived and that changes are traceable.
