Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Monitor, synthesize and interpret the economic, political, regulatory and commercial developments across assigned countries and regions, producing timely written briefs, country risk matrices, and executive summaries that inform leadership decisions and go-to-market planning.
- Build and maintain a rolling pipeline of market-entry and expansion analysis including TAM/SAM/SOM estimates, competitor landscaping, distribution channel assessment, pricing sensitivity, and local partner diligence to support business development and regional teams.
- Conduct country-level macroeconomic and sector-specific forecasting using quantitative models (time series, scenario analysis) and triangulate with qualitative intelligence from local partners, embassies, and commercial networks to produce credible 6–24 month outlooks.
- Perform detailed country risk assessments that cover political stability, regulatory timelines, currency convertibility, sanctions exposure, cybersecurity risk, and operational continuity, and translate those assessments into risk mitigation recommendations (insurance, payment terms, contract clauses).
- Track and analyze foreign exchange (FX) exposure, pass-through risks, and the implications of currency volatility on pricing, margins and working capital; collaborate with treasury to recommend hedging, invoicing currency, and payment strategies.
- Lead cross-functional research projects to support M&A, partnerships, or distributor selection, executing due diligence on local ownership structures, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and reputational considerations.
- Design, develop and maintain interactive dashboards and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau) and standardized reporting templates that surface KPIs, early warning indicators and trending signals for commercial, legal and operations stakeholders.
- Extract, clean and analyze large datasets from international sources (customs data, trade flows, economic releases, proprietary vendor feeds) using SQL, Python/R or advanced Excel to answer ad hoc and recurring business questions.
- Evaluate and summarize regulatory changes, trade policy updates, import/export controls, and sanctions lists; provide actionable guidance to compliance and supply chain teams to ensure adherence and continuity of operations.
- Prepare high-impact presentations, one-page country notes and speaking points for senior executives, sales leaders and investor-facing communications that clearly articulate opportunities, risks and recommended actions.
- Act as the primary liaison for market intelligence with regional commercial teams, establishing weekly or monthly touchpoints, disseminating targeted intelligence, and calibrating research priorities to commercial needs.
- Manage relationships with external data vendors (Bloomberg, Refinitiv, industry databases), local research firms and consultants, negotiating scopes of work and ensuring delivery quality and fit-for-purpose outputs.
- Implement and continuously improve analytical frameworks (scoring models, heat maps, risk frameworks) to standardize how the firm evaluates markets and prioritizes investment or exit decisions.
- Lead scenario planning and stress-testing exercises to evaluate the business impact of geopolitical shocks, policy shifts or macroeconomic downturns and propose contingency plans for operations, supply chain and market strategy.
- Provide commercial pricing and margin analysis for regionally tailored offers, incorporating landed cost, duties, VAT/GST, local taxes, and distribution economics to ensure profitable market entry and sustained operations.
- Conduct competitor monitoring and intelligence gathering—tracking pricing, product launches, partner networks and market share dynamics—to inform pricing strategy and competitive positioning.
- Support the structuring and negotiation of commercial terms with regional distributors, agents and partners by providing market intelligence, benchmarking local contractual norms and identifying key negotiation levers.
- Develop and lead training sessions and internal briefings for sales, product and customer success teams on country-specific regulatory constraints, cultural norms, and market-entry best practices to accelerate informed decision-making.
- Monitor and manage compliance-related screening tasks such as sanctions, politically exposed persons (PEP) checks, and export control flagging in coordination with legal and compliance teams; escalate high-risk findings with recommended next steps.
- Continuously evaluate primary and secondary data sources for quality and bias, recommend improvements to data collection practices, and establish governance for use of third-party intelligence in decision-making processes.
