Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver professional interpreting services (simultaneous, consecutive, liaison/escort and whispered) for meetings, hearings, community consultations and public events, ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness for all participants.
  • Provide simultaneous interpretation during conferences and high-level meetings using booth equipment or remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) platforms; operate or liaise with audio/visual technicians as required.
  • Conduct consecutive interpreting assignments for interviews, client intake, medical consultations and legal proceedings, maintaining impartiality and confidentiality at all times.
  • Manage scheduling and deployment of internal and freelance interpreters, maintain an up-to-date roster of qualified language resources, and ensure appropriate coverage for high-demand language pairs and specialised subject matter.
  • Evaluate and onboard external interpreting vendors, negotiate service agreements, monitor SLA compliance, and escalate performance issues while ensuring cost-effective procurement.
  • Develop and maintain glossaries, terminology databases and standardized briefing documents to ensure consistency and accuracy across interpreting assignments and subject areas.
  • Provide pre-event briefings for interpreters (including context, technical terms, speaker profiles and expected register), and prepare concise speaker notes or briefing packs as required.
  • Deliver remote interpreting services via Zoom, Interprefy, KUDO, Webex or other RSI platforms; troubleshoot connectivity and audio issues and provide support to interpreters and meeting hosts.
  • Conduct quality assurance and post-assignment reviews, collect stakeholder feedback, perform accuracy checks and implement corrective actions to continuously improve service quality.
  • Design and deliver interpreter training and professional development sessions (e.g., ethics, modes of interpreting, subject-specific terminology, RSI best practices) to build internal capacity and maintain standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and data protection for sensitive meetings and client information; adhere to organizational policies, legal requirements and professional codes of conduct.
  • Advise program managers, legal teams and client-service staff on language access obligations, cultural considerations and the most effective interpreting mode for a given engagement.
  • Prepare operational reports and dashboards on utilization rates, cost-per-assignment, wait times, satisfaction metrics and language coverage gaps to support resource planning and budgeting.
  • Coordinate multilingual event logistics, including booth assignment, microphone and audio routing, seating, signage, printed materials, and interpreter rest rotations for long sessions.
  • Support accessible communications by coordinating live captioning, transcription, translation and other accommodations to ensure inclusive participation for attendees with varied needs.
  • Manage invoicing, timesheets and payments for freelance interpreters; reconcile vendor invoices against contract terms and raise purchase orders or procurement requests in accordance with finance policies.
  • Respond to urgent and ad-hoc interpreting requests (including after-hours and emergency situations), rapidly mobilizing resources and adapting to changing priorities while maintaining service quality.
  • Conduct outreach to community groups and build relationships with cultural organisations to expand the interpreter pool, recruit bilingual staff and improve community trust in language services.
  • Participate in policy development for language access and interpretation standards, contributing subject-matter expertise to cross-functional working groups and governance committees.
  • Maintain and audit interpreter credentials, certifications and proof of professional experience; ensure compliance with national accreditation schemes (e.g., NAATI, CI/CT, DipTrans) or organizational requirements.
  • Implement and maintain interpreting technology and equipment inventories (booths, consoles, headsets, microphones) and coordinate maintenance, upgrades and secure storage.
  • Support translation teams by clarifying source-text meaning, verifying terminology and providing back-translation or quality checks when required for bilingual documentation.
  • Facilitate interpreter performance reviews and issue-based debriefs after complex or sensitive assignments to identify training needs and best practice improvements.

Required Skills & Competencies

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Postgraduate qualification or professional diploma in Conference Interpreting or Translation & Interpreting (e.g., DipTrans, Master's in Conference Interpreting).
