Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a multidisciplinary team of interventionists, behavior technicians, case managers, and direct support staff; lead regular one-on-one coaching, documentation audits, performance reviews, and corrective action when needed to maintain high-quality care.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior support plans (BSPs) and intervention strategies based on functional behavior assessments (FBAs), clinical recommendations, and evidence-based practices such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and trauma-informed care.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and safety planning for clients exhibiting crisis behaviors; coordinate de-escalation efforts, emergency responses, and post-incident reviews to reduce recurrence and ensure staff and client safety.
  • Oversee day-to-day case management activities including intake assessments, care coordination, progress monitoring, referral management, transition planning, and follow-up to ensure continuity of care and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure program compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, licensing standards, funding requirements, and agency policies (HIPAA, confidentiality, mandated reporting); prepare for and respond to audits and inspections.
  • Design and deliver ongoing training curricula for staff on behavior management techniques, crisis intervention, documentation standards, medication administration (when applicable), cultural competence, and person-centered planning.
  • Lead weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case reviews to ensure fidelity to treatment plans, integrate family and stakeholder input, and adjust interventions based on data and clinical judgment.
  • Monitor service delivery metrics, maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EMR), generate outcome reports, track KPIs (e.g., incident rates, goal attainment, service utilization) and use data to inform program improvements.
  • Manage client admissions, discharges, and service authorizations in coordination with referrals, funders, and external providers; ensure proper documentation for billing and reimbursement processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, guardians, schools, law enforcement, medical providers, and community partners to create integrated support networks and facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
  • Create, update, and enforce policy and procedure manuals related to interventions, staffing, safety protocols, and quality assurance; communicate policy changes and provide implementation support to teams.
  • Conduct home visits, school observations, and community-based assessments to evaluate environmental factors, oversee plan implementation, and train caregivers in behavior strategies and safety plans.
  • Provide direct clinical intervention or modeling as needed for high-risk cases, demonstrating best practices in de-escalation, therapeutic engagement, and skill-building interventions.
  • Oversee incident reporting systems, investigate critical incidents and near-misses, prepare incident analyses, and lead corrective action planning to remediate systemic issues.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules, workforce allocation, and on-call rotations to maintain adequate coverage and responsiveness across service locations and shifts.
  • Participate in program development, budget planning, and resource allocation—recommending staffing levels, training investments, and equipment needs to support service quality and fiscal responsibility.
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain high-quality staff and contractors; supervise background checks, credential verification, orientation, and probationary reviews.
  • Foster a trauma-informed, culturally responsive workplace that emphasizes dignity, person-centered planning, and equity in service delivery for diverse populations.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives such as fidelity monitoring, root cause analysis, and pilot testing of new intervention modalities or technologies to improve outcomes and reduce costs.
  • Provide clinical supervision and case consultation to license-eligible clinicians, coordinate external supervisory requirements, and support professional development and licensure preparation.
  • Prepare and present regular program summaries, quality reports, and data-driven recommendations to senior leadership, funders, and governing boards.
  • Ensure medication administration protocols (where applicable) are followed by staff; liaise with prescribing clinicians and pharmacies about changes and monitoring for side effects and adherence.
  • Manage transitions of care including discharge planning, referrals to higher/lower levels of care, and coordination of community resources to support long-term stability.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence on the floor and in the community to model best practices, reinforce standards, and respond to escalations in real time.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW), Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Nursing, Special Education, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree (MSW, MA, MEd, MHP) or clinical licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT), or relevant graduate certificate in behavior analysis or clinical supervision.
