Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive client discovery interviews to assess financial goals, time horizons, liquidity needs, tax considerations, estate objectives, and behavioral risk tolerance; synthesize findings into a documented client profile and planning brief.
  • Develop customized investment policy statements (IPS) that define strategic asset allocation, risk parameters, rebalancing rules, benchmark selection, and liquidity constraints tailored to each client's objectives and fiduciary requirements.
  • Construct and implement diversified portfolios across equities, fixed income, ETFs, mutual funds, alternatives, and cash equivalents, applying modern portfolio theory and practical risk-management techniques to pursue client-specific return targets.
  • Perform detailed financial modeling and scenario analysis (including Monte Carlo simulations and stress tests) to quantify probability of goal attainment, income sustainability in retirement, and downside risk under multiple market environments.
  • Provide ongoing portfolio monitoring and performance attribution: reconcile realized and unrealized returns, compare against benchmarks, analyze contribution by asset class, and produce quarterly or monthly performance reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Execute and manage disciplined rebalancing and tax-managed trading strategies, incorporating tax-loss harvesting, asset location, and cost-basis optimization to enhance after-tax returns while minimizing trading friction.
  • Conduct rigorous investment research and product due diligence on funds, ETFs, individual securities, and alternative investments; prepare written recommendations that include risk profile, fee analysis, historical performance, and role in portfolio construction.
  • Advise on retirement planning strategies, designing sustainable withdrawal plans, Social Security claiming strategies, pension optimization, and required minimum distribution (RMD) planning for tax-efficient income in retirement.
  • Collaborate with tax advisors and CPAs to integrate tax planning opportunities into investment decisions, including tax-efficient asset allocation, tax-deferred vehicles, and estate tax mitigation techniques where applicable.
  • Prepare and present client-facing proposals, plan deliverables, and periodic reviews using clear charts, scenario outputs, and action plans; educate clients on market conditions, portfolio rationale, and recommended next steps.
  • Maintain and update client financial plans using financial planning software (e.g., eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, NaviPlan), ensuring assumptions, cash flow models, and goal targets reflect current client circumstances and market environments.
  • Serve as a fiduciary or registered investment advisor representative, ensuring all investment recommendations comply with industry regulations and firm policies (SEC/FINRA rules, fiduciary standards).
  • Coordinate estate planning activities with attorneys and trustees, ensuring beneficiary designations, trusts, and legacy directives are aligned with financial and investment strategies.
  • Manage onboarding of new clients including KYC/AML compliance, risk profiling, account opening and funding processes, custodian coordination, and transition of assets with clear timelines and documentation.
  • Support business development through opportunity qualification, proposal generation, thought leadership content, and participation in client acquisition meetings or discovery calls alongside senior advisors.
  • Lead and contribute to periodic portfolio reviews and re-forecasting sessions to adjust targets, liquidity plans, and risk posture based on changing client goals, market conditions, or life events (e.g., marriage, inheritance, job change).
  • Maintain accurate CRM records (client notes, meeting outcomes, follow-ups) and ensure actionable items are tracked and executed within promised timeframes to preserve client trust and engagement.
  • Manage relationships with custodians, broker-dealers, and third-party managers to resolve trade errors, reconcile positions, and ensure operational efficiency in account servicing.
  • Implement and monitor delegated investment solutions (model portfolios, SMA/UMA strategies) and evaluate third-party manager performance with a disciplined governance process.
  • Train, mentor, and review work of junior planners, associates, or paraplanners; standardize planning templates, workflows, and quality controls to scale service delivery and ensure compliance.
  • Keep informed of macroeconomic developments, monetary policy, and sector-level trends; translate market intelligence into actionable insights that influence tactical tilts or defensive positioning in client portfolios.
  • Prepare disclosures, regulatory filings, and support internal audit requests; stay current with continuing education requirements and maintain professional licenses and certifications.
  • Measure and report against client service metrics (retention, Net Promoter Score, assets under management growth) and participate in firm initiatives to improve client experience and operational efficiency.

Secondary Functions

  • Support periodic marketing initiatives and client education events (webinars, seminars, white papers) to communicate thought leadership and generate prospect opportunities.
  • Assist with ad-hoc analytical requests from senior advisors, including special studies, custom scenario analysis, and one-off financial planning projects.

Educational Background
