- Perform final quality inspections, checking fit, finish, measurements and structural integrity against project specifications and client expectations.
- Install decorative ironwork on site, including gates, railings, fences and architectural accents, using anchors, bolts, welding or mechanical fasteners while ensuring safe and plumb installation.
- Troubleshoot fitment and installation issues on-site, making field modifications and weld repairs to adjust for site conditions or design changes.
- Create and maintain fabrication documentation, including cut lists, material takeoffs, weld logs and finish specifications for repeatability and project traceability.
- Collaborate with architects, interior designers, contractors and clients to resolve design questions and propose alternative decorative solutions that balance aesthetics, cost and manufacturability.
- Estimate labor hours and material requirements for decorative iron projects to support quotes, project planning and resource allocation.
- Train and mentor junior fabricators and apprentices on ornamental techniques, welding standards and finishing methods to raise team capability and consistency.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe shop environment, including tool maintenance, machine calibration and adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, corrosion protection standards and structural requirements for installed decorative ironwork.
- Select appropriate metals, fillers and consumables for decorative finishes, accounting for corrosion resistance, weldability and final appearance.
- Maintain inventory of specialty decorative hardware, hinges, fasteners and ornamental accessories and order materials to meet scheduled fabrication timelines.
- Document and photograph completed work for project records and marketing materials, capturing detail shots that demonstrate craftsmanship and finish quality.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc customer requests for custom finish samples and mock-ups to facilitate client approvals and reduce change orders during production.
- Participate in design review sessions to provide practical fabrication feedback and to suggest cost-effective alternative decorative details.
- Assist in shop scheduling and coordination to align finishing and installation windows with project deadlines.
- Perform preventative maintenance on welding equipment, grinders, finishing tools and finishing booths to ensure consistent performance.
- Uphold company safety programs by reporting hazards, participating in toolbox talks and completing required safety training.
- Collaborate with procurement to source specialty metals, decorative coatings and hardware from approved suppliers.
- Assist sales and estimating teams by providing input on fabrication times, complexity factors and specialty finishing costs.
- Help develop standard operating procedures for repeat decorative elements to streamline production and improve cost predictability.
- Participate in client walkthroughs post-installation to address punch lists, touch-ups and final sign-off.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process changes that improve finish durability, reduce waste or accelerate turnaround.
