Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of infrastructure programs such as data center migrations, cloud lifts-and-shifts or refactors (AWS, Azure, GCP), network transformations, and virtualization/storage refreshes; develop detailed project plans, milestones, and success criteria and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables and acceptance criteria in partnership with business stakeholders, IT architects, security teams, operations, and third-party vendors; translate business requirements into actionable technical tasks.
  • Own schedule and resource management across multi-disciplinary teams (network, server, storage, security, database, backup, cloud architects, and external contractors), including capacity planning and cross-team sequencing to avoid service disruption.
  • Manage project budgets and financials: prepare cost estimates, track spend, approve purchase requests, optimize TCO for cloud/on-prem solutions, and deliver cost controls and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate complex vendor selection, procurement, contract negotiation, SOWs and SLAs; manage vendor performance and invoice reconciliation while ensuring contractual obligations are met.
  • Drive risk and issue management for infrastructure projects: maintain risk registers, define mitigation plans, escalate when appropriate, and facilitate rapid resolution to minimize operational impact.
  • Oversee design validation, lab testing, staging, pilot deployments and full cutover activities for infrastructure changes, including runbooks and rollback procedures to ensure production stability.
  • Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to embed security controls and compliance requirements (NIST, CIS, SOC, PCI, HIPAA where applicable) into project design and delivery; ensure vulnerability and patch management processes are applied.
  • Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning projects: define RTO/RPO objectives, design DR architecture, perform failover/failback rehearsals, and validate recovery procedures with stakeholders.
  • Manage network architecture changes, including WAN/LAN upgrades, routing and switching changes, SD-WAN deployments, firewall and VPN configuration updates, and integration with load balancers and DNS systems.
  • Direct server and storage provisioning and lifecycle projects (SAN/NAS, block and object storage), including performance tuning, capacity forecasting, and migration strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Execute virtualization and container infrastructure projects (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM, Kubernetes) including cluster design, patching strategy, and resource optimization.
  • Drive cloud adoption and optimization projects, advising on cloud architecture patterns (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS), migration strategies, cloud governance, cost optimization, and hybrid-cloud connectivity (Direct Connect/ExpressRoute).
  • Implement and enhance monitoring, observability and alerting platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Datadog, SolarWinds) to ensure service-level objectives are measurable and met.
  • Standardize change and release management practices for infrastructure changes in coordination with ITIL processes, CAB governance, and automated deployment pipelines to reduce change-related incidents.
  • Coordinate and manage complex cutover and migration windows with strong communication plans and runbooks; perform stakeholder notifications, validation checks, and post-cutover monitoring.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation of architecture, operational runbooks, configuration baselines, and runbook handoffs to operations teams; maintain knowledge transfer and training sessions for support staff.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews and lessons-learned workshops; generate actionable remediation plans and update standards and templates to improve future project delivery.
  • Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) to minimize manual provisioning, enforce configuration consistency, and accelerate deployment cadence.
  • Establish and report on KPIs and dashboards for project health, infrastructure performance, change success rate, incident metrics, and SLA compliance to technical and business leadership.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and communications: provide executive summaries, steering committee updates, and status reports tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure integration of incident management and problem management processes for projects to reduce mean time to repair (MTTR) and improve long-term reliability.
  • Champion continuous improvement of delivery methodologies (Agile/Hybrid, DevOps practices) for infrastructure teams while balancing operational stability and change velocity.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination with application owners, database teams, and business units to handle dependencies, scheduling conflicts, and data migration needs.
  • Manage complex migrations involving legacy systems and applications: perform impact analysis, remediation planning, and cutover orchestration that minimize business disruption.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Project Management: PMP, Prince2, or equivalent experience in leading large, multi-vendor infrastructure projects; familiarity with Agile and hybrid delivery models.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
