  • Implement and optimize SD‑WAN solutions (Cisco Viptela/Meraki, VMware SD‑WAN, Fortinet SD‑WAN) to improve application performance, reduce costs and provide centralized orchestration and policy control.
  • Manage wireless network design, deployment and tuning (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), including access point placement, controller configuration, spectrum analysis, and WPA2/WPA3 authentication to deliver consistent Wi‑Fi coverage and performance.
  • Monitor network availability and performance using tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, Datadog, Zabbix or Cisco Prime; define alerts, thresholds and remediation runbooks to meet service level objectives.
  • Perform advanced packet captures and traffic analysis using Wireshark, tcpdump, NetFlow/IPFIX or sFlow to diagnose complex incidents, identify root cause and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain IP address management and DNS/DHCP infrastructure (Windows Server DHCP/DNS, Infoblox, BlueCat), including planning, allocation, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable name resolution and address utilization.
  • Lead and execute network upgrades, migrations and hardware refresh projects — producing technical design documents, test plans, rollback strategies and coordinating change windows with stakeholders to minimize disruption.
  • Implement network automation and orchestration using Ansible, Python, REST APIs or vendor automation platforms to standardize configurations, speed deployments and reduce human error.
  • Harden network devices and follow security best practices (secure management plane, TACACS+/RADIUS, SSH key management, firmware patching) to meet internal security policies and external compliance standards (PCI, HIPAA, SOC2).
  • Integrate on‑premises networks with public cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, Google Cloud VPC); design hybrid connectivity (Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway) and manage routing between environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated network incidents from NOC or support teams; conduct post‑incident reviews and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date network documentation including logical and physical diagrams, runbooks, configuration backups and inventory to support operations and audits.
  • Implement redundancy and high‑availability solutions (HSRP, VRRP, GLBP, redundant links, stacking) and perform failover testing to ensure business continuity.
  • Support endpoint and application teams by providing network capacity planning, port provisioning, QoS policies and firewall change support to meet application SLAs.
  • Participate in vulnerability assessments and remediation planning — coordinate with cybersecurity team to apply mitigations for identified network vulnerabilities and verify fixes.
  • Manage vendor relationships and support contracts for network hardware and software; coordinate escalations with vendor TAC and manage RMA processes when required.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior network staff and NOC engineers; develop runbooks and training materials to elevate team capability.
  • Enforce change control processes and perform scheduled maintenance, backups, and configuration audits to ensure traceability and reduce risk of unauthorized changes.
  • Analyze traffic patterns, utilization metrics and performance trends to recommend hardware upgrades, bandwidth increases or topology changes for cost-effective scaling.

Secondary Functions

  • Support cross‑functional projects including virtualization, storage and cloud migrations by providing network impact assessments and design recommendations.
  • Assist the security team with log collection, correlation and analysis (Syslog, NetFlow) and integration into SIEM tools to improve threat detection and response.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and execution for network components, including runbooks and failover validation.
  • Provide on‑call support rotation for critical network infrastructure and participate in incident calls as required.
  • Evaluate new networking technologies, proof‑of‑concept testing and provide cost/benefit analysis to leadership for strategic investments.
  • Support procurement and asset lifecycle management for network equipment, licensing and spare parts.
