- Maintain IT asset and license management: track hardware inventory, software licensing compliance, procurement cycles, warranty and vendor renewals while optimizing TCO.
- Coordinate vendor and third-party relationships: negotiate contracts, manage SLAs, evaluate vendor performance, and escalate procurement issues to procurement or finance when required.
- Establish and continually refine IT policies, standard operating procedures and change management processes to minimize operational risk and ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance (PCI, HIPAA, SOX as applicable).
- Monitor IT performance metrics, produce executive and operational reports (uptime, ticket trends, patch compliance, security posture), and present improvement plans to leadership.
- Execute cost control and budgeting activities for infrastructure, software, cloud spend and services, and provide forecasts and variance reports to finance and senior management.
- Drive operational automation initiatives (scripting in PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to reduce repetitive tasks, speed provisioning and improve consistency across environments.
- Ensure secure configuration and lifecycle of network security appliances (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto), including firmware updates, rule reviews, change control and logging/alerting.
- Provide technical oversight and support for collaboration and productivity platforms (Office 365/Microsoft 365, Teams, Exchange, SharePoint) including migrations, mail hygiene and retention policies.
- Lead security awareness, end-user training programs and runbooks for standard procedures, phishing simulations and onboarding/offboarding processes to reduce human risk and accelerate new-hire readiness.
- Manage physical infrastructure aspects such as datacenter/rack organization, power/cooling, cabling standards, on-site vendor coordination and remote site connectivity.
- Coordinate with legal, HR and compliance teams for data protection matters, access reviews, and audit support requests, ensuring timely and accurate evidence collection.
- Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis for major incidents, postmortem documentation, corrective action plans and knowledge sharing across IT and business teams.
- Oversee configuration management and maintain accurate, versioned documentation for networks, servers, applications, runbooks and escalation contacts to ensure business continuity.
- Participate in strategic IT roadmaps and solution architecture discussions to align infrastructure projects with business growth, digital transformation and security priorities.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc reporting requests, metric analysis and executive dashboards to provide visibility into IT operations, asset utilization and incident trends.
- Assist business units with technology assessments and proof-of-concept evaluations for new tools or SaaS platforms.
- Contribute to the organization's IT strategy and roadmap by evaluating emerging technologies (SD-WAN, Zero Trust, SASE), drafting business cases and estimating effort and cost.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans for integrations and system enhancements.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming and other agile ceremonies when IT teams are organized in Agile delivery models for infrastructure and platform work.
- Facilitate cross-training schedules for IT staff to build bench strength and reduce single points of failure across critical systems.
- Manage minor application administration tasks (permissions, configuration, user support) and coordinate with application owners for major changes.
- Assist with procurement and pilot testing of new end-user devices (laptops, mobile devices, peripherals), ensuring compatibility with existing management tools and security posture.
- Help define and enforce data retention and storage policies, working with application and database teams to optimize storage utilization and backup windows.
