Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Prepare and sterilize IVF laboratory consumables and culture media according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring correct lot numbers, expiration checks, and aseptic technique to support embryo culture and manipulation workflows.
  • Receive and verify patient samples (oocytes, semen, embryos) upon arrival; correctly label, log and track specimens in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to maintain chain-of-custody and avoid sample mismatches.
  • Assist embryologists with oocyte handling, denudation, and preparation for insemination, ensuring gentle manipulation, correct temperature control, and strict adherence to timing protocols during retrieval and fertilization procedures.
  • Set up and document conventional insemination and ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) preparation trays and instruments, including microdroplet preparation, oil overlay, and micromanipulation pipette sterilization, under direct supervision.
  • Perform and document routine semen analysis (volume, concentration, motility, morphology) using WHO guidelines and CASA systems when applicable; prepare semen samples for insemination or cryopreservation using gradient or swim-up techniques.
  • Prepare, label, and manage cryopreservation materials for vitrification and slow-freeze procedures, including cryoprotectant preparation, straw or cryotop labeling, and storage inventory management in the vapor-phase nitrogen system.
  • Monitor and maintain incubator conditions (temperature, CO2, O2) and document stability checks; perform routine embryo culture dish monitoring and notify embryologists of any abnormal culture conditions immediately.
  • Conduct quality control (QC) testing of media, oil, and water systems; perform and record QC assays, incubator calibration checks, and environmental monitoring (air quality, surface swabs) per laboratory quality management schedules.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment such as microscopes (inverted), micro-manipulators, centrifuges, pipettes, and Cryo storage units, and escalate repair or maintenance needs to the laboratory manager.

  • Support clinical cycle documentation tasks including checking consent forms, verifying sample requests, and ensuring paperwork accompanies clinical specimens throughout the IVF process.
  • Adhere to biosafety, chemical safety, and hazardous waste disposal protocols; maintain cleanliness and order in the ART laboratory and ancillary storage areas.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing, blinded sample reviews, and corrective action documentation when deviations are identified.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior or rotating staff on routine lab tasks, media preparation, equipment use, and basic ART workflows while reinforcing SOP compliance and safety culture.

Minimum Education:
