  • Inspect filled jars for defects such as leaks, underfill/overfill, misaligned labels, damaged containers, foreign materials, and shipping-grade presentation, removing non-conforming product immediately.
  • Execute routine machine changeovers and SKU change tasks including nozzle swaps, conveyor adjustments, and tooling changes while following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to minimize downtime.
  • Perform first article inspections and in-line quality checks, document measurements (weight, fill level, cap torque) and maintain batch records to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP guidelines consistently, including proper hygiene, hairnets, gloves, and protective clothing required in food and cosmetic packaging environments.
  • Operate and monitor metal detectors, checkweighers, and vision systems, responding to alarms, investigating causes, and documenting corrective actions to maintain product safety.
  • Load packaging materials (jars, caps, labels, trays) and consumables into machines, monitor inventory levels at the line, and coordinate replenishment to keep continuous production flow.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning machine surfaces, lubricating moving parts, replacing belts or seals, and tightening fasteners to support uptime and machine reliability.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical and electrical issues on fillers, cappers, conveyors, and labelers, escalating complex issues to maintenance technicians and documenting the incident for follow-up.
  • Accurately record production metrics including run rates, yields, rejects, downtime reasons, and scrap in production logs or MES/ERP systems at required intervals.
  • Pack and palletize finished jars according to packing specs, ensuring correct pack counts, orientation, cushioning, case sealing, and labels for shipping and warehouse handling.
  • Operate pallet jacks and hand trucks safely to move finished goods to staging areas, and assist forklift operators during load/unload activities while following facility traffic rules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area by performing scheduled sanitation tasks, sweeping, waste removal, and adhering to clean-in-place (CIP) procedures when applicable.
  • Participate in line start-up and shut-down activities, including pre-run checks, sample runs, and final quality verification before product release to downstream operations.
  • Support product traceability by accurately labeling batches, attaching production tags, and maintaining disposition records for retained samples and hold tags when deviations occur.
  • Follow workplace safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO) for minor servicing, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and reporting hazards or near misses immediately to supervisors.
  • Assist quality assurance and laboratory teams with in-line sampling, providing representative samples, and facilitating timely testing required for product release.
  • Implement continuous improvement suggestions on line efficiency, waste reduction, and ergonomics, participating in root cause analysis and corrective action activities when requested.
  • Meet or exceed daily and weekly production targets by managing line speed, quality standards, and teamwork while adapting to schedule changes and prioritized orders.
  • Train and mentor new operators on standard operating procedures, machine operation, quality expectations, and safety protocols to build a capable and cross-trained production team.
  • Comply with allergen-control, sanitation, and exclusive-zone requirements for sensitive SKUs, following established segregation and cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contact.
  • Document and escalate non-conformances, customer complaints, and packaging failures with detail and follow-through until issues are resolved and corrective actions are implemented.

Secondary Functions

  • Support material handling tasks such as unpacking bulk supplies, staging empty jars and caps, and verifying incoming packaging materials for correct lot numbers and quality.
  • Assist maintenance team during planned changeovers or preventive maintenance windows by providing operator insights and participating in verification after repairs.
  • Help coordinate minor production scheduling changes and communicate real-time line status to supervisors and planners during shift handoffs.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement workshops to contribute operator-level process improvements.
  • Cross-train on adjacent packaging lines or secondary operations (shrink-wrapping, case packers, check-weigh stations) to provide flexible coverage during absences.
  • Support ad-hoc audits by quality, regulatory, or customer auditors by providing process knowledge, documentation, and product samples as requested.
  • Assist with basic inventory counts and reconciliation of packaging consumables at the line level, reporting discrepancies for corrective action.
  • Ensure small sanitation or housekeeping tasks are completed between runs to meet audit-ready standards and minimize contamination risk.
  • Help verify shipping case counts and pallet documentation for outbound loads when required during peak shipping periods.
  • Participate in product trial runs and new SKU introductions by validating line efficiency, tooling suitability, and packing integrity for commercial release.
