  • Maintain configuration control over all blueprint documentation by tracking revisions, maintaining revision histories, applying change notices, and ensuring the correct drawing revision is used on the shop floor and in maintenance instructions.
  • Translate engineering change orders (ECOs), engineering change notices (ECNs), and field modification requests into updated technical drawings and revision packages, coordinating closely with design engineers and quality leads to validate changes.
  • Verify drawing compliance with applicable aerospace standards (ASME Y14.5, ISO GD&T, company drawing standards) and regulatory requirements, flagging and resolving discrepancies with engineering before release.
  • Create detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for jet structural repairs and modifications, including drilling templates, splice plates, fastener schedules, and installation details for maintenance crews.
  • Produce and maintain clearly annotated wiring harness and conduit routing schematics for avionics and electrical systems in coordination with electrical engineers and avionics technicians.
  • Perform detailed drawing reviews and first-article inspection support by comparing produced parts to drawing nominal values and documenting nonconformances for corrective action.
  • Prepare and maintain records for vendor-supplied drawings and supplier DWG/DXF exchanges, ensuring vendor documentation is integrated into the revision-controlled drawing library.
  • Support manufacturing and maintenance teams on the floor by interpreting drawings during fabrication, assisting with fit-checks, and clarifying ambiguous details to minimize production delays.
  • Digitize and archive legacy hand-drawn blueprints and paper records into a controlled CAD library while ensuring traceability to original part numbers and certifications.
  • Manage drawing release workflows within PLM/ERP systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill, AMOS) to ensure accurate linkage between drawings, parts, and work instructions.
  • Coordinate with structural stress, materials, and engineering teams to ensure critical dimensions and load paths are clearly communicated on blueprints for safe jet operation.
  • Prepare and distribute technical data packages (TDPs) including drawings, material specifications, inspection forms, and process notes required for subcontractors and repair stations performing jet maintenance and overhaul work.
  • Assist in creation and upkeep of standard drawing templates, title blocks, and symbol libraries to ensure consistency across all jet blueprint documentation.
  • Conduct routine audits of drawing sets to confirm accuracy, completeness, and presence of required certifications, sign-offs, and compliance stamps prior to release.
  • Support certification activities by providing detailed drawings and revision histories required by regulatory submissions, conforming to FAA or other applicable civil aviation authority documentation standards.
  • Train and mentor junior drafters and technicians on blueprint standards, CAD best practices, and company document control procedures to improve team capability and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot drawing-related production issues and drive root-cause resolution by collaborating with manufacturing engineers, tooling technicians, and suppliers.
  • Prepare work instructions, cutting lists, and nesting layouts derived from blueprints to optimize material usage and manufacturability for jet components.
  • Coordinate cross-functional reviews for complex modification programs, ensuring all disciplines (structures, systems, electrical, and avionics) are aligned on the released drawing package.
  • Provide timely technical support during aircraft disassembly/reassembly and modifications, ensuring all blueprints and temporary fabrication drawings are validated against the physical aircraft.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain and improve the CAD drawing library, performing periodic clean-up, archiving obsolete revisions, and tagging drawings for retention per document control policies.
  • Assist in process improvement projects to reduce drawing rework, accelerate release cycles, and integrate automated data exchange between CAD and ERP systems.
  • Support materials and procurement teams by providing accurate part geometry and specifications needed for purchase orders and vendor qualification.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and manufacturability assessments to provide drafting insights and identify potential production constraints early.
  • Generate change logs, transmittals, and controlled distribution lists for released drawing sets to stakeholders, repair stations, and suppliers.
  • Help create and maintain technical publications and assembly manuals derived from blueprint data for both internal and external customers.
  • Assist quality and compliance teams during audits by preparing evidence of drawing traceability, sign-offs, and revision control procedures.
  • Support obsolescence management by identifying drawings associated with end-of-life parts and coordinating redesign or source alternatives with engineering.
  • Facilitate data migration projects by validating drawing integrity post-conversion from legacy formats into modern CAD systems.
  • Provide occasional on-call support for urgent blueprint clarifications during aircraft AOG (aircraft on ground) events and high-priority maintenance windows.
