Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Deliver an unparalleled, high-touch customer service experience from the initial greeting to post-purchase follow-up, ensuring every client feels valued, heard, and understood.
  • Consistently achieve and exceed personal sales targets and contribute to the store's overall financial success through proactive client engagement and expert sales techniques.
  • Diligently build and maintain a substantial client portfolio (clienteling), fostering long-term relationships through personalized communication, and anticipating future needs and special occasions.
  • Develop and maintain an encyclopedic knowledge of the brand's collections, including the history, craftsmanship, materials (gemstones, metals), and unique characteristics of each piece of fine jewelry and timepiece.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, skillfully guiding clients through the selection process by listening to their needs, understanding their style, and presenting curated options that resonate with their personal stories.
  • Master the art of storytelling to convey the romance, heritage, and intricate details behind each piece, creating an emotional connection between the client and the jewelry.
  • Expertly manage and present high-value merchandise, demonstrating proper handling techniques and conveying the inherent worth and beauty of each item with confidence and grace.
  • Proactively generate and qualify leads, reaching out to your client network to share new arrivals, exclusive events, and personalized recommendations.
  • Plan and execute personalized client appointments, creating a bespoke and memorable shopping environment tailored to the individual's preferences.
  • Facilitate the entire custom design and special order process, acting as the key liaison between the client, designers, and artisans to bring a unique vision to life.
  • Expertly and accurately process all sales transactions, returns, and exchanges using the point-of-sale (POS) and inventory management systems, ensuring meticulous record-keeping.
  • Skillfully overcome client objections and negotiate terms when appropriate, always aiming for a mutually beneficial outcome that reinforces the client relationship.
  • Stay current with industry trends, competitor activities, and developments in gemology and fashion to provide clients with contemporary and informed advice.
  • Drive sales across multiple product categories, from bridal and fashion jewelry to watches and high-jewelry pieces, by identifying cross-selling opportunities.
  • Adhere strictly to all security protocols and loss prevention procedures to ensure the safety of clients, staff, and the high-value merchandise at all times.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the pristine appearance of the showroom, ensuring visual merchandising displays are impeccable, captivating, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Participate in and support the execution of in-store events, trunk shows, and client appreciation nights to drive traffic and enhance brand loyalty.
  • Facilitate the jewelry repair process, from intake and initial assessment to communicating with the workshop and ensuring the client is kept informed and satisfied.
  • Support inventory management activities, including participating in regular stock counts, organizing merchandise, and communicating stock needs to the management team.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to create a supportive and positive store environment, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate the entire team's performance.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Point of Sale (POS) & CRM Systems: Proficiency in operating retail POS software and using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools to manage client data and communication.
  • Product Knowledge (Gemology & Metals): Deep understanding of the 4Cs of diamonds, characteristics of various gemstones, and properties of precious metals. GIA certification is a significant plus.
  • Inventory Management: Familiarity with stock-taking procedures and inventory control systems used in a retail environment.
  • Sales Transaction Processing: Ability to handle complex sales, including financing, special orders, and international shipping, with high accuracy.
  • Visual Merchandising: A keen eye for detail and aesthetics to assist in creating attractive and effective product displays that drive interest.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Gemological Institute of America (GIA) credentials (e.g., Graduate Gemologist, AJP) are highly desirable.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Fashion Merchandising or Marketing

  • Art History

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-5+ years of sales experience.

Preferred: A proven track record of success within a luxury retail, fine jewelry, or high-end hospitality environment is strongly preferred. Experience working on a commission-based pay structure is also beneficial.
