Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Administer, maintain, and support the entire Atlassian suite, including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Design, build, and meticulously maintain complex Jira workflows, screen schemes, field configurations, permission schemes, and notification schemes to support diverse business processes.
  • Manage all user accounts, groups, project roles, and access permissions across the Atlassian ecosystem, ensuring compliance with security policies and providing smooth onboarding/offboarding experiences.
  • Evaluate, install, configure, and manage third-party Atlassian Marketplace add-ons (apps/plugins) to extend platform functionality while maintaining system stability.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated JQL queries, custom filters, advanced dashboards, and reporting solutions (e.g., using eazyBI) to provide actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for end-user support, providing timely and effective troubleshooting for issues related to workflows, permissions, integrations, and general usage.
  • Lead and execute complex technical projects such as Jira version upgrades, data migrations (e.g., Server/Data Center to Cloud), and instance consolidations with minimal disruption.
  • Create and manage powerful automation rules using native Jira automation, ScriptRunner for Jira, or other tools to reduce manual effort and improve process efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, and Product Managers to configure Jira boards (Scrum and Kanban) and align project settings with Agile best practices and team needs.
  • Proactively monitor system performance, perform regular health checks, and implement optimizations to ensure the Atlassian stack is fast, scalable, and responsive.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system configurations, process guides, and user-facing training materials for Jira and Confluence.
  • Architect and implement integrations between Jira and other critical business systems (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins, Slack, Salesforce) using REST APIs and integration platforms.
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce governance standards, best practices, and standard operating procedures for the Atlassian suite across the entire organization.
  • Configure and manage Jira Service Management (JSM) projects, including customer portals, request types, automation, queues, and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Perform in-depth data analysis and generate custom reports from Jira data to support business intelligence initiatives, capacity planning, and strategic decision-making.
  • Conduct regular system and configuration audits to ensure data integrity, security, and adherence to established governance policies.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to business and technology leaders, recommending how to best leverage Atlassian tools to meet their evolving goals and challenges.
  • Manage and test backup and recovery plans for the Atlassian environment to ensure data protection and business continuity in case of a disaster.
  • Stay current with the latest Atlassian product releases, features, and industry trends, proactively identifying and recommending opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Information Security team to manage application-level security, conduct vulnerability assessments, and ensure the platform adheres to all compliance requirements.
  • Customize project configurations, including issue types, custom fields, and field contexts, to meet the unique requirements of various teams without creating system bloat.
  • Plan and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for any significant changes, including major upgrades, new plugin implementations, or complex workflow modifications.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis using JQL, SQL, and other reporting tools.
  • Contribute to the organization's broader DevOps strategy and roadmap by ensuring tight integration with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate their operational and project management needs into formal engineering requirements for the Atlassian platform.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the platform engineering team to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Assist teams in structuring and managing their Confluence spaces, creating useful templates, and promoting best practices for knowledge management.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert-level proficiency in Jira administration (Cloud and/or Data Center), including a deep understanding of its architecture and underlying database structure.
  • Mastery of Jira's core configuration concepts: schemes (workflow, permission, screen, notification), custom fields, and project settings.
  • Strong command of Jira Query Language (JQL) to create complex queries for filters, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Significant experience with Confluence administration, including space management, user permissions, and template creation.
  • Proven scripting ability for automation, particularly with Groovy for use in tools like Atlassian's ScriptRunner.
  • Practical knowledge of REST APIs and webhooks for building and troubleshooting integrations between Jira and other applications.
