Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide comprehensive, one-on-one career coaching and advising to students and alumni covering all aspects of career exploration, self-assessment, and the job search lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify, cultivate, and maintain a robust network of strong, lasting relationships with employers, corporate recruiters, and industry contacts to generate a diverse pipeline of internships and full-time job opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver engaging workshops, dynamic presentations, and classroom sessions on critical career development topics such as resume/cover letter writing, advanced interviewing techniques, networking strategies, and salary negotiation.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the institution and the business community, effectively marketing the skills and qualifications of our talent pool to prospective employers.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a full calendar of career-focused events, including large-scale career fairs, boutique networking nights, on-campus recruiting days, and employer information sessions.
  • Conduct in-depth mock interviews with individuals, providing constructive, actionable feedback to help them refine their communication style and build confidence for real-world scenarios.
  • Critically review, edit, and provide expert guidance on student and alumni resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles to ensure they are professional, compelling, and optimized for applicant tracking systems (ATS).
  • Manage and maintain the career services management (CSM) platform (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity), ensuring the timely posting of opportunities, managing event logistics, and tracking student engagement.
  • Track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to placement rates, employer engagement, and advising appointments for internal assessment and external reporting requirements.
  • Maintain a deep, current understanding of industry trends, labor market information, and evolving recruitment practices to provide the most relevant and strategic advice.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, academic advisors, and other internal departments to integrate career development into the student experience and promote services across the organization.
  • Develop and manage targeted communication campaigns to students and alumni regarding relevant job opportunities, career events, and available resources using email, social media, and other digital platforms.
  • Administer and interpret career assessment tools (e.g., Myers-Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory) to help individuals gain clarity on their interests, values, and personality as they relate to career choices.
  • Provide specialized guidance to diverse populations, including international students, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, regarding their unique job search challenges and opportunities.
  • Advise individuals on the finer points of professional etiquette, building a personal brand, and constructing a professional network both online and in person.
  • Mediate and support the relationship between students and employers during internship or co-op experiences, serving as a resource to address any issues that may arise.
  • Assist in the collection, verification, and analysis of first-destination survey data from recent graduates to report on employment outcomes and inform program strategy.
  • Coach individuals on how to effectively evaluate job offers, negotiate salary and benefits packages, and make informed, strategic career decisions.
  • Research and source new potential employer partners through online databases, professional networking events, and targeted outreach efforts.
  • Serve as an active member on institutional committees and task forces related to student success, retention, and experiential learning initiatives.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with the planning and execution of orientation and welcome week activities for new students.
  • Contribute to the creation and updating of career-related content for the department's website, blog, and printed marketing materials.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and conferences to stay current on best practices in career services and higher education.
  • Support administrative duties for the department, including scheduling, data entry, and responding to general inquiries from students and employers.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
