Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct in-depth, one-on-one coaching sessions to assess job seekers' skills, experience, career goals, and potential barriers to employment.
  • Develop and implement personalized Individual Employment Plans (IEPs) or career action plans that outline specific, measurable steps for achieving employment objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance on resume and cover letter creation, tailoring documents to specific job applications and ensuring they are optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
  • Facilitate comprehensive interview preparation, including conducting mock interviews and providing constructive feedback on communication, body language, and STAR method responses.
  • Coach clients on developing effective job search strategies, including leveraging online job boards (LinkedIn, Indeed), professional networking, and accessing the hidden job market.
  • Deliver engaging and informative workshops and group training sessions on a wide range of topics, such as advanced resume writing, interviewing skills, professional networking, and LinkedIn profile optimization.
  • Assist clients in building and optimizing their professional brand, including creating compelling LinkedIn profiles and other online professional presences to attract recruiters.
  • Administer and interpret career assessment tools (e.g., Myers-Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory) to help clients identify suitable career paths and understand their professional strengths.
  • Provide up-to-date labor market information and industry trend analysis to help clients make informed decisions about their career direction and target employers.
  • Guide clients in salary negotiation techniques, helping them understand their market value and articulate their compensation expectations confidently and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and client records, meticulously documenting progress, interventions, and outcomes in a CRM or case management system.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers, recruiters, and industry professionals to create a network of job opportunities and referral sources for clients.
  • Support clients in navigating and overcoming personal and professional challenges that may be impeding their job search, connecting them with appropriate community resources when necessary.
  • Review and critique professional portfolios, personal websites, and other application materials to ensure a consistent and powerful professional narrative.
  • Stay current with hiring trends, recruitment technologies, and best practices in career coaching and workforce development through continuous professional development.
  • Provide motivational support and accountability to keep clients engaged and resilient throughout the often-challenging job search process.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as client placement rates, time to employment, and client satisfaction, to measure program effectiveness.
  • Customize coaching approaches to meet the unique needs of diverse populations, including recent graduates, career changers, veterans, and individuals re-entering the workforce.
  • Instruct clients on effective professional communication and business etiquette for networking events, informational interviews, and follow-up correspondence.
  • Collaborate with a team of career services professionals to share best practices, client success stories, and potential employment leads.
  • Research and identify relevant training programs, certifications, or upskilling opportunities that align with client career goals and local labor market demands.
  • Act as a passionate advocate for clients, helping them to articulate their value proposition to potential employers and overcome any perceived employment gaps or weaknesses.

Secondary Functions

  • Develop and update workshop materials, handouts, and digital resources for job seekers.
  • Contribute to the organization's blog, social media, or newsletters with career-related content and tips.
  • Participate in community outreach events and job fairs to promote career services and connect with potential clients and employers.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of networking events, hiring fairs, and employer information sessions.

Experience Requirements
