  • Thoroughly interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed work orders to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and material needs.
  • Execute precise measurements and markings on raw stock using precision tools to ensure accurate cuts and final product conformity.
  • Feed material into the jointer with expert technique, carefully managing stock to prevent kickback and achieve a perfectly straight, flat edge or surface.
  • Perform rigorous quality control inspections on raw materials prior to machining to identify and segregate wood with defects like knots, splits, or warping.
  • Conduct in-process and final quality assurance checks on all machined parts, utilizing calipers, gauges, and squares to verify dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
  • Adjust machine settings, including cutterhead height, fence angles, and feed rates, to accommodate different wood species and achieve specified finishes.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on jointing machinery, which includes cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of all moving parts to ensure optimal performance.
  • Skillfully sharpen, replace, and set jointer knives and cutterheads, ensuring they are balanced and aligned for safe and effective operation.
  • Proactively monitor machine operations, listening for unusual noises or vibrations, and watching for signs of mechanical issues to prevent breakdowns.
  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve minor machine malfunctions and operational issues to minimize production downtime and maintain workflow.
  • Strictly adhere to all company and industry safety protocols, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and machine guards.
  • Execute established lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during all maintenance, cleaning, and setup activities to ensure a zero-energy state.
  • Maintain a meticulously clean, organized, and safe work environment around the machine and within the production area to prevent accidents.
  • Accurately document production metrics, including number of pieces processed, time taken, and material usage, in production logs or digital systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with other machine operators, production staff, and supervisors to coordinate workflow and ensure production targets are met efficiently.
  • Manage the flow of materials to and from the workstation, including the safe handling and staging of raw lumber and stacking of finished components.
  • Assist in managing inventory of essential supplies, such as spare blades, lubricants, and cleaning materials, reporting low stock levels to the supervisor.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement programs by providing valuable feedback and suggesting enhancements to processes, safety, and efficiency.
  • Operate secondary woodworking equipment, such as planers, table saws, or sanders, as required to support team objectives and production needs.
