Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching to journalists on all aspects of the reporting process, from initial ideation and sourcing to structuring narratives and final polishing.
  • Act as a senior-level thought partner to reporters and editors, offering expert guidance on complex investigative projects, sensitive topics, and high-stakes reporting.

  • Conduct in-depth reviews of pre-publication content, providing constructive, nuanced feedback focused on improving clarity, accuracy, fairness, and narrative impact.
  • Champion and uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, serving as the go-to resource for navigating conflicts of interest, source confidentiality, and other ethical gray areas.
  • Guide newsrooms in the innovative use of multimedia, data visualization, and other digital tools to create more engaging and accessible storytelling formats.
  • Assist journalists in developing robust, diverse source networks to ensure their reporting reflects a wide range of perspectives and voices.
  • Mentor reporters on pitching ambitious stories effectively and developing long-term beat expertise and enterprise reporting projects.
