Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and professionally develop a diverse team of reporters, writers, and digital producers, providing consistent, constructive feedback to elevate their craft and career growth.
  • Oversee the entire daily news gathering and production cycle, from initial story pitching and assignment through to final publication across all platforms (digital, print, broadcast).
  • Review, edit, and approve a high volume of news stories, features, and investigative pieces for accuracy, clarity, grammar, style, and adherence to AP style and internal editorial guidelines.
  • Develop and execute the daily and long-term editorial calendar, ensuring a compelling mix of breaking news, enterprise reporting, and in-depth features that align with our strategic goals.
  • Serve as the primary editorial decision-maker for breaking news situations, calmly directing coverage, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring swift, accurate reporting under tight deadlines.
  • Uphold and enforce the highest standards of journalistic ethics and legal principles, providing guidance to the team on sensitive topics, source verification, and potential liabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with photo, video, social media, and audience engagement teams to ensure content is presented in the most compelling, innovative, and impactful ways.
  • Monitor real-time news feeds, social media trends, data analytics, and community sources to identify emerging stories and assign coverage proactively.
