Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Interpret complex blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical schematics to determine the precise layout and requirements for plumbing systems and related equipment.
  • Expertly install, assemble, and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems, strictly adhering to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics on malfunctioning plumbing systems, utilizing advanced tools like video inspection cameras and pressure gauges to accurately identify the root cause of leaks, blockages, or pressure inconsistencies.
  • Skillfully install, repair, and maintain a wide variety of plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, water heaters (tank and tankless), and garbage disposals.
  • Cut, bend, and thread pipes to required angles and lengths using a range of hand and power tools, such as pipe threaders, cutters, and benders.
  • Join pipes and fittings together using various techniques appropriate for the material, including soldering, brazing, welding, cementing, or mechanical couplings.
  • Install and maintain essential plumbing system components such as backflow prevention devices, pressure-reducing valves, circulation pumps, and sump pumps.
  • Test plumbing systems for leaks and other weaknesses by filling them with water or air and reading pressure gauges to ensure system integrity and safety.
  • Clear obstructions from clogged drains and pipes using professional-grade equipment, including drain snakes, augers, and high-pressure hydro-jetting systems.
  • Repair or replace broken or leaking pipes, valves, and fittings in residential, commercial, and industrial environments, often working in confined or challenging spaces.
  • Respond to emergency service calls to address urgent issues like burst pipes, severe clogs, or gas leaks, working efficiently to mitigate damage and restore service.
  • Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities are performed in strict compliance with current local, state, and national plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Install and test gas lines and appliances, ensuring all connections are secure, leak-free, and meet stringent safety standards.
  • Work with a diverse range of piping materials, including copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and galvanized steel, understanding the unique properties and applications of each.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems, extending the life of the infrastructure.
  • Prepare detailed work orders, document materials used, and provide accurate estimates for labor and parts required for repair or installation projects.
  • Coordinate with other construction trade professionals, such as electricians, carpenters, and HVAC technicians, to ensure project timelines and specifications are met.
  • Safely excavate and backfill trenches for the installation or repair of underground water and sewer lines.
  • Install and service water treatment and filtration systems, ensuring clean and safe water quality for building occupants.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of new plumbing technologies, materials, and regulations through ongoing professional development and training.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on every job site and within the company service vehicle, ensuring proper inventory and tool management.
