Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and monitor semi‑automatic and fully automatic jug filling machines, ensuring accurate fill volumes, proper capping, sealing, and labeling while maintaining target throughput and minimizing overfill/underfill.
  • Set up filling lines for scheduled runs including changeover procedures: install appropriate nozzles, adjust fill volumes, configure conveyors, and verify labeling/coding systems to reduce downtime during product transitions.
  • Perform in‑process quality checks at defined intervals (weight checks, visual inspections, seal integrity exams, label alignment) and document findings on batch logs, production reports, or the MES.
  • Execute sanitation and cleaning‑in‑place (CIP) or manual cleaning procedures per SOPs to prevent cross‑contamination and ensure compliance with HACCP and GMP requirements.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and driver recipes to achieve consistent product quality; escalate variances to Quality Assurance and Production Supervisors immediately.
  • Weigh, measure, and verify raw material and ingredient additions when applicable; validate container integrity prior to filling and remove defective containers from the line.
  • Perform routine mechanical adjustments and basic troubleshooting (nozzle alignment, fill head adjustments, conveyor tracking) to maintain continuous operation and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to schedule and support preventive maintenance, planned repairs, and part replacements; perform basic lubrication and cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Load and unload packaging materials, caps, and labels; verify material lot codes and traceability information to maintain accurate inventory and recall readiness.
  • Record production yields, reject rates, downtime reasons, and scrap amounts in production logs or digital systems and contribute to daily shift handover reports.
  • Calibrate and verify fill volume settings and check metering systems (piston, gravity, rotary valves) to maintain accuracy within tolerance limits.
  • Conduct pre‑shift inspections of equipment and verify that safety guards, interlocks, and emergency stops are operational before starting the line.
  • Ensure all product contact surfaces are inspected and maintained according to food safety and sanitation schedules, and participate in sanitation verification after cleaning cycles.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and confined space protocols when assisting maintenance or performing equipment interventions; adhere to OSHA and internal safety standards at all times.
  • Troubleshoot packaging defects such as mis-caps, improper seals, labeling errors, and container deformation; take corrective action and document root cause when required.
  • Assist Quality Assurance with sample collection, in-line testing, and batch release activities to support compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Train and mentor new operators on line setup, changeovers, sanitation, safety protocols, and documentation practices to ensure consistent performance across shifts.
  • Execute minor electrical/mechanical adjustments under guidance and escalate complex faults to maintenance technicians to minimize impact on production schedules.
  • Manage line speed adjustments to optimize throughput while maintaining fill accuracy and product integrity; communicate speed changes and impacts to the team and supervisors.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis) to improve cycle time, reduce waste, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure packaging materials and finished goods are handled per FIFO and storage instructions to prevent product mix-ups.
  • Follow allergen handling procedures, lot traceability, and documentation controls required by food safety or chemical regulatory regimes.
  • Respond to off‑spec events (e.g., abnormal fills, contaminants) by isolating product, documenting nonconformance, and cooperating with QA for disposition and corrective actions.
  • Support end‑of‑shift cleanup and line changeover activities including purge runs, material replenishment, and proper storage of tools and spares.
  • Adhere to PPE requirements and company safety programs while monitoring fellow operators and initiating safety stops if unsafe conditions arise.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in inventory cycle counts of packaging supplies and escalate low stock or discrepancies to the supervisor or inventory control team.
  • Support ad‑hoc production or packaging tasks such as case forming, palletizing, or stretch wrapping to meet shipment deadlines.
  • Contribute to training materials and standard work documents by providing operator feedback and practical process insights.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and follow through on corrective actions to reduce repeat packaging defects and downtime.
  • Help maintain digital production records in the MES or ERP, ensuring accurate timestamps, batch IDs, and operator signoffs for audits.
  • Engage in cross‑functional shift handovers, communicating key issues, open corrective actions, and quality observations to the incoming team.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits by helping produce records, demonstrate procedures, and implement audit‑related corrective actions.
  • Pilot small process improvement experiments and report results to team leads for potential scale-up across lines.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting jug filling equipment (piston fillers, gravity fillers, rotary fillers) and auxiliary packaging machinery (cappers, labelers, conveyors).
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP principles, and basic food safety regulatory requirements.
  • Experience performing CIP (cleaning-in-place) and sanitation procedures, including proper handling of chemical cleaners and sanitizers.
  • Ability to perform accurate in‑process quality checks (weight checks, seal integrity tests, visual inspections) and document results.

  • Experience with label and code verification systems, vision systems, or checkweighers desirable.
  • Forklift or pallet jack certification preferred for material handling and finished goods staging.
  • Basic electrical/PLC awareness helpful for communicating faults to maintenance (no formal PLC programming required for operator roles).

Educational Background

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED
