Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct complex quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research on a wide range of justice system topics, including case processing, sentencing patterns, recidivism, and program outcomes.
  • Extract, clean, merge, and manage large, complex datasets from various sources such as court records, law enforcement databases, and correctional systems using SQL and other programming languages.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance interactive dashboards and data visualizations using tools like Tableau or Power BI to track key performance indicators and communicate trends to non-technical audiences.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports, policy briefs, research summaries, and white papers that translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for policymakers and executive leadership.
  • Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of new and existing justice programs, policies, and interventions using rigorous statistical methods and evaluation frameworks.
  • Design and implement data collection strategies, including surveys, interview protocols, and focus group guides, to gather primary data from justice system stakeholders and community members.
  • Perform advanced statistical analysis, including regression modeling, predictive analytics, and time-series analysis, to identify causal factors and forecast future trends.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments and external partners, including courts, law enforcement agencies, corrections officials, and community-based organizations, to support data-informed decision-making.
  • Monitor and analyze local, state, and federal legislative and policy developments to assess their potential impact on the justice system and organizational operations.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of all data, adhering to strict data governance protocols and legal and ethical standards for handling sensitive information.
  • Respond to time-sensitive ad-hoc data and analysis requests from senior leadership, elected officials, and external partners.
  • Conduct spatial and geographic analysis of crime data and resource allocation using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) to identify hotspots and patterns.
  • Assist in the development of grant proposals by providing data, evidence of need, and robust evaluation plans to secure funding for justice initiatives.
  • Review, synthesize, and critique academic literature, government reports, and best practices from other jurisdictions to inform local policy and practice.
  • Develop and refine performance metrics and measurement tools to assess operational efficiency, fairness, and public trust in the justice system.
  • Facilitate data-driven discussions and workgroup meetings with diverse stakeholders to build consensus and drive collaborative problem-solving.
