Core Responsibilities

A Justice Consultant Assistant's day is varied and demanding. You will be juggling multiple tasks across different projects. The core of your work is to ensure the smooth and effective execution of consulting engagements.

Primary Functions

  • Conduct in-depth legal, policy, and social science research on diverse justice sector topics, including criminal law, judicial administration, police reform, access to justice, and juvenile justice systems.
  • Synthesize complex information from various sources—such as statutes, case law, academic articles, and government reports—into clear, concise, and actionable memos, briefings, and summaries for the project team.
  • Provide direct administrative and logistical support to senior consultants and project managers, including scheduling complex multi-stakeholder meetings, coordinating travel arrangements, and meticulously preparing meeting materials.
  • Assist in the drafting, editing, and formatting of high-quality project deliverables, such as final reports, policy papers, training manuals, and presentations for clients and stakeholders, ensuring a professional and polished final product.
  • Help organize and facilitate workshops, focus groups, and interviews with a wide range of justice system stakeholders, including judges, lawyers, police officers, government officials, and community members.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, which may involve coding interview transcripts, analyzing survey results, or managing case file data to identify key trends and patterns.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals and grant applications by gathering background information, drafting sections of the narrative, and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Monitor and track legal, policy, and legislative developments relevant to ongoing projects at the local, state, national, and international levels, providing timely updates to the team.
  • Maintain and organize project files, databases, and contact lists to ensure all information is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to the project team.
  • Assist with project management tasks, including tracking timelines, monitoring progress against work plans, and reporting on project milestones and deliverables using project management software.
  • Prepare detailed minutes and action items from internal team meetings and external consultations with clients and partners, ensuring key decisions and next steps are accurately captured and disseminated.
  • Support the creation of visually compelling presentations and data visualizations using tools like PowerPoint and Excel to communicate research findings effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Liaise professionally and effectively with clients, partner organizations, and external experts to gather information, coordinate activities, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Handle the processing of project-related expenses, invoices, and financial documentation in coordination with the finance department, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
  • Contribute to the firm's knowledge management by summarizing key project outcomes, documenting lessons learned, and updating internal resource libraries to build institutional capacity.
  • Perform initial reviews and rigorous fact-checking of documents and reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to citation and formatting standards.
  • Support the coordination and execution of project-related events, such as conferences, webinars, and public forums, from initial planning through to post-event follow-up and reporting.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and environmental scans to inform the design of new projects and the strategic direction of research initiatives.
  • Assist in the design and testing of research instruments, such as survey questionnaires, interview protocols, and data collection templates, to ensure they are fit for purpose.
