Primary Functions
- Manage the complete case lifecycle by organizing and maintaining voluminous case files, including pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and research, in both physical and electronic formats.
- Conduct extensive and complex legal research and analysis on statutory, regulatory, and case law using platforms like Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal databases.
- Draft, proofread, format, and cite-check a wide range of legal documents, including motions, pleadings, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda.
- Provide comprehensive litigation support by assisting attorneys in all phases of trial preparation, including organizing trial notebooks, managing exhibit lists, and coordinating witness schedules.
- Coordinate and manage large-scale document reviews and productions using sophisticated e-discovery platforms such as Relativity, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in handling sensitive data.
- Perform detailed factual investigations, including gathering evidence, interviewing potential witnesses, and synthesizing information into clear, concise summaries for attorney review.
- Serve as a primary logistical point of contact, managing complex case calendars, scheduling depositions, hearings, and meetings, and tracking all critical deadlines.
- Prepare and assemble demonstrative aids, presentations, and other materials for use in hearings, trials, and client meetings.
- File legal documents with federal and state courts, ensuring strict adherence to all local rules, deadlines, and procedures, with a strong command of electronic filing systems (CM/ECF, PACER).
- Analyze, digest, and summarize deposition transcripts, discovery materials, and other case-related documents to identify key facts, inconsistencies, and strategic insights.
- Maintain and meticulously update the firm's case management system with all relevant case information, documents, deadlines, and status notes.
- Communicate with a high degree of professionalism with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, government agencies, and expert witnesses.
- Assist with the preparation and issuance of subpoenas and coordinate with process servers to ensure timely and proper service.
- Track and manage case-related expenses, process vendor invoices, and assist in the preparation of budgets for litigation support services.
- Develop detailed timelines, charts, and factual chronologies to support case strategy and narrative development.
- Provide direct, hands-on support to attorneys during courtroom proceedings, including managing exhibits in real-time, taking detailed notes, and facilitating communication.
- Coordinate with expert witnesses by managing their retention, gathering necessary materials for their review, and tracking their work product.
- Organize and prepare witnesses for depositions and trial testimony, including assembling relevant documents and background materials.
- Perform meticulous Bluebook and other legal citation checks on briefs, motions, and scholarly articles to ensure perfect accuracy.
- Assist in responding to discovery requests by identifying, collecting, and organizing responsive documents from various client and internal sources.
