Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist senior supervisors in monitoring and managing a diverse caseload of individuals within the justice system, ensuring compliance with court orders, program requirements, and supervision conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake interviews with new clients to gather detailed personal, social, and legal histories, and accurately document this information in the case management system.
  • Prepare detailed and objective pre-sentence investigation reports, social history summaries, and other critical court documents by gathering information from various sources including interviews, records, and collateral contacts.
  • Observe and document court proceedings, hearings, and administrative meetings to gain a thorough understanding of the judicial process and provide summary reports to the supervising team.
  • Perform legal and policy research on topics related to criminal law, sentencing guidelines, rehabilitation programs, and emerging trends in the justice field to support case strategy and program development.
  • Maintain meticulous and confidential case files, ensuring all documents, correspondence, progress notes, and court orders are filed correctly and updated in a timely manner according to agency standards.
  • Facilitate communication between clients, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, and social service providers to coordinate services and ensure all parties are informed of case progress.
  • Support the development and implementation of individualized service or supervision plans, helping to identify client needs and connecting them with appropriate resources such as housing, employment, and treatment services.
  • Shadow Justice Supervisors during field visits to client homes, workplaces, or community-based programs to learn effective engagement and monitoring techniques in a real-world setting.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss case progress, brainstorm solutions for complex cases, and provide input based on direct observation and file reviews.
  • Assist in the administration of risk/needs assessments and other screening tools to help determine appropriate supervision levels and intervention strategies for clients.
  • Draft official correspondence, memos, and reports on behalf of the department for internal and external distribution, ensuring professionalism and accuracy.
  • Help organize and co-facilitate psycho-educational or skill-building groups for clients on topics such as anger management, cognitive-behavioral skills, or job readiness.
  • Monitor client participation and progress in mandated programs, collecting attendance records and performance feedback from service providers for inclusion in the case file.
  • Respond to inquiries from clients and their families, providing information about the justice process and available resources in a clear, empathetic, and professional manner.
  • Utilize and update the agency’s electronic case management system and other databases to track client data, appointments, and outcomes, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Compile statistical data and generate regular reports on caseload trends, program outcomes, and key performance indicators to support departmental evaluation and planning efforts.
  • Review and analyze police reports, court records, and other legal documents to extract pertinent information and summarize key findings for supervisors.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling appointments for clients, including court dates, meetings with supervisors, and sessions with service providers, and provide necessary reminders.
  • Contribute to special projects aimed at improving departmental processes, developing new resources for clients, or conducting research on best practices in community corrections and justice administration.
