Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate and meticulously monitor large-scale, steam-jacketed industrial kettles to cook, mix, and blend ingredients according to precise production formulas.
- Accurately weigh, measure, and stage a variety of raw materials and ingredients for batch production, ensuring strict adherence to the production schedule and recipe specifications.
- Control and adjust critical process parameters such as temperature, pressure, cooking time, and mixing speeds using programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and HMI control panels.
- Perform regular in-process quality assurance checks, including taking samples and testing for viscosity, pH, Brix, temperature, and sensory attributes to ensure the product meets all quality standards.
- Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely documentation, including electronic and paper batch records, production logs, and quality control paperwork in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Strictly follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guarantee product safety and integrity.
- Execute thorough cleaning and sanitation of kettles, pumps, transfer lines, and associated processing equipment, performing both Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Clean-out-of-Place (COP) procedures.
- Safely manage the transfer of finished product from kettles to holding tanks, totes, or packaging lines using pumps, hoses, and other transfer equipment.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve minor operational issues and equipment malfunctions, performing basic adjustments and escalating complex problems to the maintenance team and supervision.
- Adhere rigorously to all plant and OSHA safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, proper use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safe chemical handling protocols.
- Manage ingredient inventory at the workstation, ensuring proper stock rotation (FIFO), and communicating raw material replenishment needs to the materials management team.
- Safely operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and drum lifts, to transport raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, including QA personnel, packaging operators, and shift supervisors, to ensure seamless and efficient production flow between departments.
- Read and interpret production schedules, work orders, and complex batch sheets to determine processing instructions, material requirements, and production targets.
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operational checks on all equipment to verify it is in a safe and proper working condition before commencing any production run.
- Assist in the hands-on training and mentoring of new kettle operators, providing clear guidance on operational procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, minimizing waste, and improving safety within the production environment.
- Ensure all raw materials are correctly identified, scanned, and consumed within the company's inventory management system (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for traceability purposes.
- Monitor kettle and equipment performance throughout the entire operational cycle to prevent process deviations such as scorching, boiling over, or improper mixing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area by consistently applying 5S principles and other housekeeping standards.
- Immediately report any deviations from product specifications, processing standards, or potential food safety concerns to the Quality Assurance department and the Shift Supervisor.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in performing cycle counts and physical inventory checks for raw materials and packaging supplies.
- Support the maintenance team by assisting with minor preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
- Participate in plant-wide safety meetings and contribute to the safety committee's objectives.
- Provide operational feedback to engineering and management teams on equipment performance and potential process improvements.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Machine Operation: Proven ability to operate, monitor, and adjust industrial processing equipment, preferably kettles, mixers, or blenders.
- Basic Mathematics: Strong arithmetic skills for accurate weighing, measuring, and calculating batch yields.
- Reading Comprehension: Ability to read, interpret, and follow complex instructions from SOPs, batch records, and safety manuals.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Capacity to understand machine functions and perform minor troubleshooting and adjustments.

Minimum Education:

- 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing, food production, chemical processing, or similar industrial environment.

- Experience working in a GMP-regulated facility (food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or cosmetics).
