Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assist supervising clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care by preparing patients and treatment areas for therapy sessions.
- Guide patients meticulously through prescribed therapeutic exercise routines, focusing on demonstrating and ensuring proper form, technique, and safety.
- Educate patients on their home exercise programs, providing clear, jargon-free verbal instructions and written materials to promote adherence and recovery.
- Observe and monitor patients' physical and emotional responses during treatment, promptly reporting any significant changes, pain, or adverse reactions to the supervising Kinesiologist.
- Set up, apply, and monitor various therapeutic modalities, such as hot/cold packs, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation, under the direct guidance and supervision of a licensed clinician.
- Maintain impeccable and timely patient documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, chronicling exercises performed, patient feedback, and objective data.
- Actively manage the flow of the clinic floor, ensuring patients move efficiently between different stages of their appointment to optimize their experience and the clinic schedule.
- Conduct thorough cleaning and sanitation of all treatment tables, exercise equipment, and rehabilitation tools between each patient use to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Communicate with patients in an empathetic, encouraging, and professional manner, building rapport and fostering a positive and motivating atmosphere.
- Assist in conducting functional assessments and movement screens, helping to record measurements, cues, and patient performance data.
- Manage clinic inventory, including linens, modality supplies, and exercise bands, by tracking stock levels and notifying the appropriate personnel of reordering needs.
- Take and accurately record patient vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate, before, during, and after exercise to ensure patient safety.
- Participate actively in team meetings, case reviews, and in-service training sessions to enhance clinical knowledge and contribute to a collaborative care model.
- Uphold strict patient confidentiality at all times, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines and clinic privacy policies without exception.
- Provide administrative support as needed, which may include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and preparing patient charts.
- Research specific patient conditions, new exercise protocols, or evidence-based practices to support the clinical team and contribute to personal learning objectives.
- Assist in the creation and updating of patient education materials, including handouts and videos on topics like ergonomics, injury prevention, and stretching.
- Lead or co-lead small group exercise classes for specific populations (e.g., senior balance class, post-op knee class) under the supervision of a clinician.
- Provide observational support and assistance during specialized procedures such as gait analysis, postural assessments, or work-site evaluations.
- Foster a safe environment by being vigilant of potential hazards on the clinic floor and ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
