Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Guide individual clients and groups through prescribed therapeutic exercise programs, focusing meticulously on proper form, technique, and safety protocols to maximize efficacy and prevent injury.
  • Assist licensed practitioners in conducting initial patient assessments, functional movement screens, and range of motion tests to help formulate a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Diligently document all patient interactions, including subjective feedback, objective measurements, exercises performed, and observed progress, within the clinic's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Prepare and maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment by setting up, breaking down, and sanitizing therapeutic equipment before and after each patient session.
  • Educate patients and their families on their prescribed home exercise programs, clearly demonstrating each movement and providing written materials to ensure compliance and continuity of care.
  • Monitor patient vital signs (such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation) before, during, and after exercise sessions, reporting any abnormal findings to the supervising clinician immediately.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities, including hot/cold packs, TENS, ultrasound, and muscle stimulation, under the direct guidance and supervision of a licensed therapist.
  • Facilitate effective and professional communication between the patient and the supervising clinician, accurately relaying patient concerns, feedback, and reported changes in status.
  • Observe, analyze, and provide feedback on patient gait, posture, and movement patterns to identify biomechanical faults and areas for improvement.
  • Perform various administrative duties essential to clinic flow, such as managing patient schedules, answering phones, filing patient records, and assisting with billing inquiries.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of patient education materials, workshops, and community outreach programs focused on injury prevention, ergonomics, and general wellness.
  • Manage the inventory of clinical supplies, including therapy bands, tape, and modality gels, ensuring treatment rooms are well-stocked and placing orders as needed.
  • Uphold strict patient confidentiality and privacy standards in compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA, PHIPA).
  • Assist in conducting functional capacity evaluations (FCEs) or physical demands analyses (PDAs) by setting up equipment and recording data under direct supervision.
  • Adapt and modify exercises in real-time based on a patient's tolerance, pain levels, and immediate feedback to ensure the session remains both safe and productive.
  • Provide consistent motivational support and positive reinforcement to encourage patients and foster a strong sense of self-efficacy throughout their rehabilitation journey.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training sessions to contribute to patient care discussions and engage in continuous learning.
  • Research and present current, evidence-based articles and findings related to specific patient cases or areas of clinical interest to the rehabilitation team.
  • Support the supervising clinician in the fitting and adjustment of braces, orthotics, or other assistive devices, ensuring proper fit and educating the patient on usage.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Therapeutic Exercise Prescription: Solid understanding of how to design and progress exercises for various musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology: Deep, functional knowledge of the human body's structures and systems.
  • Biomechanical Analysis: Ability to observe and analyze human movement to identify inefficiencies and potential injury risks.
