- Safely disconnect, move and reinstall appliances during repair and installation calls while protecting customer property, using dollies, straps, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support troubleshooting of refrigeration systems: check refrigerant pressures, inspect compressors, condenser coils, evaporator coils and fans; document findings and escalate refrigerant work to certified technicians in compliance with EPA regulations.
- Assist with gas appliance tasks by securing gas lines, leak testing connections, and verifying proper burner operation under the supervision of a certified gas technician (do not perform independent gas work unless certified).
- Complete and update digital work orders, service reports and parts logs on mobile devices or company software, ensuring accurate time tracking, serial numbers, warranty codes and customer signatures.
- Identify and log required replacement parts and accessories; pick up parts from stock or vendors and maintain clear chain-of-custody for warranty and billing accuracy.
- Test electrical circuits, continuity, voltage and amperage on appliances using multimeters and clamp meters; report electrical anomalies to the lead technician immediately.
- Follow diagnostic flowsheets to isolate intermittent faults, replicate failures, and validate successful repairs by running full operational tests and performing safety checks.
- Provide clear, courteous customer communication before, during and after service calls: explain observed issues, recommended fixes, repair timelines, potential costs, and basic operating tips to reduce future failures.
- Adhere to company safety policies including lockout/tagout, proper handling and disposal of refrigerants and hazardous materials, and safe lifting practices; participate in job-site hazard assessments.
- Maintain and organize service vehicle toolkits, portable inventory, specialty tools and diagnostic equipment; ensure vehicles are stocked, clean and ready for daily dispatch.
- Observe and learn manufacturer-specific repair techniques and calibrations during mentor-led repairs; participate in on-the-job training and product certification programs.
- Assist with scheduled installations of appliances: level units, connect electrical and water lines, secure venting, and verify operation and customer satisfaction.
- Support warranty processing by collecting proof-of-purchase information, copying serial numbers, photographing failures, and preparing documentation for manufacturer claims.
- Respond to emergency service calls as required, supporting overnight or weekend rotations and communicating status updates to dispatch and customers.
- Escalate complex technical issues and safety concerns to senior technicians or the technical support hotline; document troubleshooting steps and outcomes for team knowledge sharing.
- Help with light inventory management tasks: receive, verify, and shelve parts shipments; rotate stock and flag shortages to the parts coordinator.
- Participate in quality assurance activities including post-repair follow-ups, customer service surveys, and on-the-job performance reviews to improve service reliability.
- Maintain a professional presentation and service demeanor: wear company uniform, identification, arrive on time, and protect customer floors and surfaces while working.
- Assist in training new helpers and apprentices by demonstrating safe tool use, diagnostic procedures and customer interaction best practices under supervision.
Secondary Functions
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling follow-up appointments, coordinating with dispatch, and preparing service quotes for supervisor review.
